Audience Killers on kolmeliikmeline indie-sündipopi bänd Riiast, Lätist. Loodud aastal 2010, on trio seni avaldanud vaid ühe EP nimega Footprints and Hearts.
Bändi enda sõnul on maailma muusikatööstus tänu Ewert & The Two Dragonsi edule tähelepanu ka viimaks Baltikumile poole pööranud. Selles vaimus antaksegi singel välja ajal, mil muusikatööstuse huvi sündipopi vastu on märkimisväärselt suur.
Kui soovid Audience Killersist rohkem infot saada ning nende loominguga tutvuda, kuula ülaltoodud 5. novembril eetris olnud "Balti Skene" raadiosaadet.

Thousandth. // Silently we swear, silently we curse, but our hands obey not like mind boiling hundreds of words to shot on our tongue with aim to criticize, sting, hurt and strip to the buff. Enough. // In desperate need to explore those scenes, here comes Audience Killers with their newest epic bang Two Bare Feet. Pure relationship story. Resistance and mutual fragility, oblivion and uneasy ways. Breath. // If only there was calmingly soft beach sand under those two bare feet to find nothing but peace of heart. Audience Killers ceases to amaze. Subtle and hazy vocals as always, plus this time rising and mundanely thrilling drum'n'synth combo causing goosebumps all over our bodies. Full disclosure. - Click And Listen It
The long-awaited new release ‘Two Bare Feet’ has finally made its way to the patient fans of Latvian trio Audience Killers. Their single and accompanying video were unveiled during a release party on 4th of November. It is the trio’s first piece of new material since the debut EP ‘Footprints and Hearts’ released in 2012 and you could definitely say that a big step closer towards synthpop and further away from dance-rock.
Compared to their previous material ‘Two Bare Feet’ sounds more mature and serious even though the recognizable good features of their music are still quite audible and present like for instance the falsetto vocals of Normunds and simple catchy melodies. This time they have left out guitars and depend almost completely on brilliant sounding keyboards for background construction. „Electric flashes“, xylophones and drums are also an important asset. The track can be classified epic right from the start when it finally builds up to something grandiose at the chorus part when you hear the sweet collision of the vocals of Normunds and Arletta. The heroic tension has also helped build up by the masterful drum patterns of Edgars. Not disappointed and excited to hear more of their new material!
The video is minimalistic but full of strong emotion, set in only one location, directed by Elviss Zants and produced by kindness. It features a living together and certainly not happily. It’s obvious they’re fighting. In the end you’ll see the woman try to leave and run away but for some reason she is not able to do so in spite of all the trying. The final seconds give you a good view of Jana’s bare feet. The official description of the video is called for and it states: “In this world we tend to think of relationships as something that have a beginning and a potential end. What if we would be robbed of the ability for actual destruction? What if we simply could not run away?” Seems to me that this single and video represent one of the most common problems in western society, the inability for couples to stay together and work on their problems instead of leaving and moving on to the next person. The video presents a hypothesis of what if you couldn’t leave.
Buy the single via iTunes or Amazon, and keep a lookout for upcoming events:
Thursday, November 7 - ETV breakfast show “Terevisioon” – Tallinn, Estonia

Audience Killers is a Latvian dance-rock/synthpop trio that consists of Normunds Petrovs (vocals, guitar, keyboards), Arletta Supe (backing vocals, keyboards) and Edgars Oplucans (drums, percussion). The 3-piece band officially formed in 2010, the same year they released an online compilation titled ‘Rainbow’ with two songs ‘Mon Personage’ and ‘Rainbow’, the latter being their first radio single. After a moderate pause they put out two singles ‘Red Lights’ and ‘The Runaway Kite’, both from their debut EP ‘Footprints and Hearts’ which was issued in July 2012 on Lauren Laurén record label. The 5-track EP was recorded in Riga and saw the group collaborate with the producer and musician Edgars Žilde alias August IV. Mastering was done at the Abbey Road Studios in London by Christian Wright. It also features Oskars Bahmanis as a guest musician playing the bass and it should be mentioned that although Normunds plays keyboards on live shows, he didn’t play them on the EP.
The album is available physically or digitally with a free download/contribute button on Bandcamp or iTunes. Give it a listen, and if you like it (we know you’ll like it) ask them for a copy!
‘Footprints and Hearts’ is like a rush of positive energy. In fact all tracks except for the opening track, ‘The Runaway Kite’, are in major key yet one should not be fooled. Although the lyrics have a hidden sadness to them, they generally still contain a dreamy positive outlook on life. High often falsetto vocals of Normunds give their music a very distinctive sound. The melodies of the vocal parts are charmingly beautiful and would sound good even with no instrumental background. The overall emphasis in fact does seem to be on vocals. Every song is very melodic and definitely single material in my opinion. Their music is quite simple and that is meant in the best possible way. You could also give them credit for pushing a three-piece to the limits using different timbres and sounds to make the music sound richer and fuller. My personal favorites are ‘Red Lights’ and the title song ‘Footprints and Hearts’ which is something I would`ve liked to dance to at my prom if I would have had one.
After their debut release Audience Killers successfully played at the biggest Baltic music festival ‘Positivus’. The band has also performed at several other key music festivals as well as smaller venues in Latvia and Estonia. They’re currently recording their new single ‘Two Bare Feet’ in Riga, Latvia which will be released on the 5th of November 2013. Check out the breath-taking teaser! - The Baltic Scene

A much gentler version of the same scenario - of outside experience as uncanny - appears in the new work from Riga's Audience Killers. The last time we investigated the band's material, almost no supporting context could be found. The group's two official sites had vanished forever - or at least until somebody felt like paying for their upkeep. Likewise, a Facebook account contained only one image. That situation has now improved a tad with the publication of a five-track EP, "Footprints and Hearts."
An interview with the Latvian press has helped to frame these songs - together with hopes for promotional work a little further from Riga. Here we learn that although Audience Killers are all music school graduates, some unavoidably confusing barriers lie ahead of them. Academic skill is frustrated by a few problems. First among them is language. The band admits to opting for English in the name of a wider audience, but their actual travels have only gone as far as Estonia - where a lingua franca is apparently absent. Tongues are quickly tied. One of the musicians hopes that - in time - the creative, fiscal, and linguistic practice of Estonia and Latvia will intertwine, thus broadening the publication and concert markets. "At the moment, Latvia offers very few places for young musicians to perform."
Sounds made from as many colors as possible
The suggestion is made that all Latvian, Estonian, and even Lithuanian bands who sing in English should combine forces. Thus far, though, the best language for designating one's experience - and fixing an audience - appears moot. Odd experiences have no stable names. Slowly turning that anxious engagement of surrounding reality into a realm of more hopeful, upbeat challenges, the Audience Killers speak first of UK rock bands of the 1970s. Inspiration and social confidence come from rock's archives. They then say that if their music were ever expressed in chromatic forms, it would "involve as many colors as possible."
Social challenges adopt psychedelic hues: uncertainty, little by little, is embraced as multiplicity. Quiet people slowly adopt loud colors. - Far from Moscow
Northern tempestuous winds and seashore. Latvian dream-indie-pop band Audience Killers having vigorous and trustful back in management and soun mastering in person of Edgars Žilde (look for his own project Augusts IV), has released video for their start-step piece The Runaway Kite. Completing in one shot creative soundscapes and snaky meandering visions is the right way of self-releasing in the air to concure greater stages. Recently released album perhaps sounds a bit monotonous, even and vocally smooth, but as I said, it’s like one shot, one wind blow what makes you feel refreshed and disperses you from one corner to another. But knowing that skies have no corners, Audience Killers just made you run and run, run and run... Run away and around. - Click And Listen It
Listening to Audience Killers (LV) while knowing that they are based in Baltics is similar to seeing Ben&Jerry´s ice cream for the first time on the shelves of local supermarkets – you´ve always known that it´s somewhere out there, it ought to be delicious and outstanding, but you´ve never had a truly personal contact .
During times when creating synth-pop is the hippest thing, Audience Killers represents pure indiepop like it started in the UK in the mid-1980s, their creation roots from alternative rock featuring simple computergame-sounding chiptunes on synths and hands on romantic, careless feelings through happy melodies. Another reason why their music stands out is the timbre of the vocalist – sounding something similar to Jonas Bjerre from Mew it increases the warmness and joy racing to ones body. This is band who we plan to see on bigger stages! - The Baltic Scene

Given the way in which web-based publishing (or piracy) erases any sense of meaningful chronology, texts and tunes can appear - and reappear - without seasonal logic. The rationale, for example, behind Christmas or summertime publications has long since vanished - together with serious talk of a profit incentive. Individual compositions, digital singles, and albums may now emerge - or reemerge - at any time of the day or night. Take, by way of illustration, the work of Riga's Audience Killers. Their small catalog is apparently no more than a two-track single, "Rainbow," which has suddenly appeared on Bandcamp, even though it seems to be a product of late last year. That brief renaissance would at least suggest that concerted activity has begun elsewhere online: somebody, somewhere is keen to grab our attention.
And yet a jaunt around some of the relevant Latvian sites, even tangentially connected to the band, soon produces a very different opinion. The group's two official sites both appear to have vanished forever - or at least until somebody feels like paying for their upkeep. Likewise, a Facebook account contains only one image: the pink picture below that, ironically, seems to reflect some discernible media interest. It suggests a photo-shoot of relative significance (even if the flanking adults look disengaged).
The only place of evident effort is Twitter. In fact the entire textual content of Audience Killers' Facebook account is now coming via Twitter in Latvian. One person - somewhere - is busy with a cellphone. A singular voice thus sounds out against an overwhelming impression of transience. Whatever once appeared in terms of bona fide songwriting seems now to have passed. A barely audible stream of tweets is the only sign of any impending activity.
There are some indications of future studio work: not only from those mobile notes, but also in the lyrics of the band's single. The basic refrain running through one of the tracks - "Mon Personage" - was: "I'm a plastic robot,/ Sleeping charming lady./ Vulgar kitchen monster,/ Guy from high-school picture./ It's sentimental." Placing aside the gender confusion in those couplets, it's at least clear that domesticity and nostalgia are both very unappealing. The desire to escape them would logically inspire new, focused effort.
Vulgar kitchen monster... It's sentimental
Time marches on, leaving a few hushed voices, and yet "fond" memories are dismissed out of hand. Nostalgia is not an option... - Far from Moscow
recently, high-quality music in Latvia is growing like mushrooms after the rain and Audience Killers has released a new song after shorter or longer time

Sometimes music speaks louder than words. I can give you a full detailed biography you don't care about, as you wanna hear how it sounds not what kind of cornflakes the guitarist likes to eat, not? All great, but what happens when you actually can't describe it? Well, you can always can come up with an intro like this, not?
Nah, seriously. Audience Killers are from Latvia. Not that you can hear it, but then again we're not that familiar with Latvian indie music after all. Even if it's almost winter time, Normunds, Edgars and Arletta are bringing the sun back in your life as they write the type of songs you expect from Belle & Sebastian. Yeah, that good.
Sunny indie pop songs with a touch of the 80's (think Les Disques Du Crépuscule). Just pay attention as they are all very fragile pop songs, they can break.
This mini-album features five songs. Try it.

Bio
Creating a flowing motion mix of synth-pop and dance-rock, Northern European band Audience Killers have roots that can be traced to the childhood friendship of lead singer Normund and Arletta (keyboards). In 2009, they began writing and playing songs together. Early the following year, they went into the studio for live sessions, where Edgar became their drummer.
Having formed in 2010, indie pop trio swiftly released their first 2 songs, which brought them recognition throughout Latvia’s indie scene. Their music features melodic guitar motions, synth beats and a distinct vocal, that all morph into a dreamy bundle/cloud of rhythmic delight.
The band, who perform in English, released their debut EP ‘Footprints And Hearts' in July 2012 on Lauren Laurén record label. ‘Footprints And Hearts' were recorded in Riga (mastered by Christian Wright at Abbey Road Studios in London), collaborating with producer and musician Edgars Žilde (Augusts IV). Belgium music magazine 'Peek-a-Boo' called this album "Sunny indie pop songs with a touch of the 80's - the type of songs you expect from Belle & Sebastian". Their first single 'The Runaway Kite' has received critical and popular acclaim.
After debut release Audience Killers were invited to play biggest Baltics festival 'Positivus' who described band as one of the most prominent Latvian indie pop rock artists of the moment. The band have performed at several other key music festivals as well as smaller venues in Latvia, Estonia and Finland for past 2 years.
Audience Killers live performance often has been described as a mixture of Danish alternative rock band Mew, UK's Delphic and Massachusetts-based indie rock band Passion Pit.
Unlike their records, the performance consists of one single exploration during which the trio go through a series of subgenre changes and push their collaborative effort as far as it can sustain. As well as danceable beats back interlocking rhythms and an outstanding falsetto vocal. Primarily pop but so much more interesting.
Audience Killers has released their new single and corresponding video on November 5th. This is the band’s first piece of new music since the release of their debut EP ‘Footprints and Hearts’ back in 2012.
Titled ‘Two Bare Feet’, the dreamy track is poised to usher listeners into the feel good holiday season with its momentous drum work, bright piano & xylophone riffs, ethereal group vocals, and themes of renewal.
For the astute synthpop fan, lead singer Normunds Petrovs striking falsetto as heard in ‘Two Bare Feet’ will bring to mind flashes of current acts like M83 and Death Cab For Cutie.
Written and produced by band itself, new single slightly stands out from their previous records with both its intimacy and its ambition. Recorded & mixed in Riga, Latvia with Gatis Zakis (Instrumenti) and mastered in Taunton, England by John Dent (Kasabian, Darwin Deez, Goldfrapp) ‘Two Bare Feet’ is the band’s most potent and distinct work to date.
Positivus Festival 2012 (Latvia): "Audience Killers are one of the most prominent latvian indie pop rock artists of the moment".
Peek-a-Boo music magazine (Belgium): "Audience Killers are bringing the sun back in your life as they write the type of songs you expect from Belle & Sebastian. Yeah, that good. Sunny indie pop songs with a touch of the 80's".
The Baltic Scene (Estonia): "Another reason why their music stands out is the timbre of the vocalist – sounding something similar to Jonas Bjerre from Mew it increases the warmness and joy racing to ones body. This is band who we plan to see on bigger stages!"
"Two Bare Feet" review (The Baltic Scene): "The track can be classified epic right from the start when it finally builds up to something grandiose at the chorus part when you hear the sweet collision of the vocals of Normunds and Arletta. The heroic tension has also helped build up by the masterful drum patterns of Edgars."
