"Sounds of Success"

Salt Lake's Attic Base took a decidedly nontraditional route to it's deal, focusing it's efforts on the internet.

The trio- brothers/keyboardists Matt And Michael Burton and singer Melissa Mello (also Matt's wife) - moved to Salt Lake City about three years ago after attending college in San Luis Obispo, Calif; where the synth-fueled group had some success on local radio. Recording at home, the band tried the traditional course of sending demos to labels, but never heard anything back. "It wasn't until MP3.com that things really took off," Matt Burton said. The digital-music exchange site allows bands to upload their songs for surfers' perusal, and it compiles charts based on the most popular downloads in various genres on a daily basis. Attic Base's songs "had immediate successs," Burton said, eventually hitting No.1 this spring on MP3.com's New Wave charts. The MP3 site earned them a California meeting with a Universal rep who felt synth-heavy dance music was due for a comeback. He gave the band an assignment: go home and write a hit song that will break this New Wave resurgnece.

Bio

Thanks to Sonicbids, we've signed several licensing deals, and are now getting our music placed in Reality TV Shows!

Attic Base is a husband and wife music production team comprised of Matt Burton and Melissa Mello. The unique songs that emerge have a nasty and powerful quality that warps the line between alternative, pop, and electronic music. Originally inspired from classical composers, their sound lies somewhere between 80's era Berlin and Blondie, and today bands Shiny Toy Guns and Jem.

"I can't wait to hear more stuff...your lead singer has one of the most unique voices I've heard since Gwen Stefani, Teri Nunn, or Dale Bozio...I love it. I am very into current music and styles that are heavily 80s influenced....I feel it could be a big deal in the future...I love your sound and look forward to talking in the future" - Jay Michaels, Director of A&R Universal Music

Having already enjoyed commercial radio success with the premiere of their synthpop track, "Electric Butterfly", Attic Base independently released their debut album, "Action" the following year. Both A Different Drum Records and Kinetic Response Records were involved in the distribution of their first disc. Several tracks from the album appeared on various CD compilations throughout the nation. Compilation appearances include: "Shadow Dancing" -A Different Drum, "Kinetic Art"- Kinetic Response Records, "Now Music for Pop People Vol. III"- Lexicon Magazine, "In Need"- A Different Drum, "Venusa XX Vol. I"- Side Line Music Magazine, "Annihilation and Seduction"- BLC Productions, and Salt Lake City's alternative rock station comp: X96 Live & Local Vol 1.

By consistently being featured indie artists on the Mp3.com music charts, Attic Base were offered an indie label deal from Kinetic Response Records in 2002, to unleash their internationally acclaimed album, "Night Vision". Their MP3 chart success also caught the attention of the Director of A&R at Universal Music Group.

In June 2003, they were the headlining local act at the annual Dark Arts Festival in Salt Lake City as well as the Battle of the Bands competition at Club DV8 in Salt Lake City. As a result of their radio play on both Salt Lake City X96 Live and Local Show and KRCL, their techno rock single, "Night Vision", was selected to appear on the X96 premier indie artist alternative rock local band compilation: X96 Live & Local Vol 1.

Following the release of their third album- New World View in 2007, singer/songwriter Mike Burton left the band to pursue a solo project.
