Beyoncé, Blue October and chopped-and-screwed rap aside, Houston has the weakest music scene of any of Texas' major cities. But Mr. Yoria's astute and reverential songwriting makes him the city's current indie-pop king. His most recent release, Handshake Smiles, nearly swept Houston critics' 2007 best-of lists not just because his imaginative and reassuring songcraft is of major-league quality, but he's become unabashed about weaving Southwestern sounds (pedal steel and Tejano accordion on "Should Be," swamp-blues guitar on "Clean For Free," harmonica and spaghetti-echoed honky-tonk licks on the title song) into his oeuvre. Also known for recording in Spanish, the Chicago-born Colombian-American could easily catch a ride on the burgeoning wave of multiracial, multilingual pop stars.

Recently saw Arthur Yoria at Momo's, World Music Night sponsored by KUT 95.5 FM/kut.org presented by Bemba Entertainment and was just blown away by his creativity, music and style. How is it that Rock y Roll Radio did not know about this incredible talent?
To be honest, Rock y Roll Radio did know about Arthur Yoria. Caught Arthur's performance at the Flamingo Cantina in Monoceja's debut performance in August. Monaceja could be described as a two man experimental, Euro-pulsating beat, fusion rock band. Eduardo "Edo" Fajardo, of bands Edo and Executive Life is the other half of Monaceja.
Arthur is not new to music but somewhat a new solo act to Austin. He is an accomplished Houston based bilingual singer/songwriter, nominated Songwriter of the Year in the Houston Press Music Awards since 2001. "He combines guitar and vocals with samples, loops, and digital effects. The tracks that are heard live are recorded immediately on stage and are then played under the current live track until that track too becomes a background layer." And now that you know about Arthur Yoria, catch his shows, get his music and Rock y Roll Radio promises you won't be disappointed. - rock y roll radio

The Winning Song Has Entered The Mix
The second-most-important election has come to an end.
Yes, it's true. The hugely successful Music From The OC: Enter The Mix contest is over, leaving us emotionally exhausted and genuinely overwhelmed by the many thousands of entries. After lots of deliberation, and a couple of thrown shoes, we settled on five amazing finalists.
Out of those five, you chose the winner: "Call Me" by Arthur Yoria.
Arthur Yoria is a singer-songwriter from Houston, with two self-released EPs, and an album called I'll Be Here Awake. You can find out more about this handsome chap at arthuryoria.com, and you can listen to "Call Me," and all four runners-up by clicking here. Arthur's song will be featured on an upcoming episode of the second season of The OC, which debuts November 4th.
When that happens, Mr. Yoria will join a pretty exclusive group of artists who've had songs featured on The OC. Examples include Death Cab For Cutie, Interpol, Jimmy Eat World, Low, Eels and many more. All of those bands have songs on Music From The OC: Mix 2 or Music From The OC: Mix 3: Have A Very Merry Chrismukkah, both in stores now, along with their older, but no less talented, sibling, Music From The OC: Mix 1.

Bio
Yoria is a nomadic musician who has lived in Chicago, Austin, Dallas, Brooklyn, California, Colorado and is currently in Houston Texas. He has toured extensively in the U.S. as well as internationally, including Colombia, England and Italy. Live he combines guitar and vocals with a genius touch to song development. His style, good grace and calm demeanor can often get lost with his manic attention to his lyrics and song structure. Yoria has been nominated for several awards for Houston Press Music Awards and founded 12 Records, Inc. with his good friend and former Houston Rocket, Matt Maloney. Their song, ‘I’ll Be Here Awake’ reached #8 on the national specialty radio charts. Another one of Yoria’s songs from that album, ‘Call Me’, was used in the Fox Television show The O.C. and ‘Here To Stay’ was used in the final credits of the psychological thriller film Breaking Dawn. Yoria’s work is featured on a regular basis in TV commercials for CheapBooks.
