Bio
Passion and lyrical power describe quickly emerging singer/songwriter Arlene McCann. She pushes the limits of acoustic music and creates music that defies solid categorization. With three full length albums released to date, she just completed her first national tour to support of her latest 'Who You Say You Are'.
Of course the music doesnt end with studio releases! The art of live expression has fueled Arlene in showcasing her original tunes all over the United States. She's played in venues such as Kramers Afterwards Caf in Washington DC (where other artists such as Mary Chapin Carpenter made their foot holes), in festivals such as Sisterspace of the Delaware Valley and Uncommon Ground in Lansing, Michigan, as well as popular Venues such as The World Caf Live, and the Tin Angel in Philadelphia, The Bitter End in New York City, Momo's in Austin, and many other places in between!
Arlene writes her songs straight from the heart, telling it like it is. With brash honesty, and bitterly heartbreaking tones, she takes you on her personal journeys of love and life changing insights. Descriptions of her work relate her to the sounds of artists such as Ani Difranco and Dar Williams, folkie vibes with hints of rock and roll. Her plentiful influences include Rachael Yamagata, Eminem, Jason Mraz, Katie Sawicki, Patty Griffin, Johnny Cash, Damien Rice, and Death Cab for Cutie.
Transplanting to the city of Philadelphia early in her career, she came into her own in the City of Brotherly Love. She is an independently minded, shoot from the heart spirit who is active in the community.
Recently, Arlene was voted Fortes (young professionals of the Kimmel Center, Philadelphia) Chosen local musician, and played a special set for the honor of the award in March of 2010.
She also was showcased in Lansing, Michigan's festival, Uncommon Ground, along with well known headliner's Adam Lambert, Orianthi, and many others.
