NEW YORK, NY—Anjelia & The Boy is sometimes much more. Like they were the Saturday night of Memorial Day Weekend at the Lower East Side’s National Underground. The Jersey Shore acoustic pop duo of vocalist Anjelia Pelay on keys and Nick Kiefer on guitar was joined by violinist Taylor Hope and the accompanist guitar of Joseph Chiappelli, a.k.a. Anjelia’s dad.
The songstress’ stark blonde bangs, big black eyelashes and white thread crown make her look like a Lady GaGa, but the music is less RaRa boombeats and more coffee shop pop. Even without a drummer, their sound stays full: Kiefer’s rhythm guitar is an ever-present drive while Anjelia taps out the melodies on her keyboard and, at times, a melodica. Her voice almost always comes from the bottom, belting out her lyrics rather than the talk-at-you or breathy whisper style that similar singers revert to. The young Hope’s rock violin is a definite plus, often furious, sometimes waning. And yes, Father’s Day came early this year, as Anjelia’s doe-eyed, goateed dad blends in, appearing when necessary with the occasional flourish picking of his guitar. It was a really sweet display of familial affection—how well they complemented each other, and how comfortable they seem in their own skin.
Though maybe they’re still figuring out exactly what that is. Songs like “In Colors” and “Ours Will Be The Sky” shift between throwback rock ballads and country-tinged ditties, while “Giving Up” and “In The End” recall the femme-fronted acts of the late Nineties/early Aughts. Whatever it is that Anjelia & The Boy grows into, it will be worth watching. - John R. Bohrer/The Aquarian

Sunset seemed to take longer over the New Jersey hills as beautiful singer Anjelia Pelay cast some of her own light at Keyport's Espresso Joe's. On this cold Saturday night off the Jersey shore, her sweet, lovely, emotionally charged voice, warmed coffeehouse patrons. As she pours her heart and spirit into her performance, Anjelia creates a moving and joyful experience for her audience.
Versatile and multi-talented, musician, singer/songwriter, model and actress (drama and comedy), with a resume too long to here mention, Anjelia could start a one girl entertainment industry.

"musically it [Anjelia & The Boy] sounds like Colbie Caillat, except Anjelia can actually sing, where as Caillat is just a piece of eye candy."

Replacing a muggy Manhattan afternoon, a cool Jersey shore breeze rolled in along with Anjelia Pelay and her band to the Lower East Side music scene at Joey and Gavin DeGraw's Music Bar, The National Underground.
With a beautiful voice soft or filled with power and emotion, lovely Anjelia Pelay always moves her audience. Last night was no exception, except the addition of Taylor Hope's sweet violin accompaniment. As the band gets a feel for the city, Anjelia hopes to perform more often in the Big Apple. Sweet heart, sweet smile, great voice, careful New Jersey, with this girl, New York might try to claim Finders-Keepers.

A singer, songwriter, actress, and multi-instrumentalist (playing piano, guitar, melodica, harmonica, ukulele, and even accordion), Anjelia Pelay, was born and raised in Toms River, N.J. It all started at the age of 5, playing Mozart and Beethoven pieces on the piano by memory. She then grew up entertaining and performing for almost her whole life. After spending some years as an actress appearing in small guest star roles in Film/Television, dappling in some dance gigs and Off-Broadway roles as well; Anjelia was quietly writing her original music, working hard at perfecting her craft. You may have seen her before 'in character', but her music will surprise you even more
When she met Nick Kiefer; guitarist, designer, and also multi-instrumentalist (playing guitar, banjo, harmonica, mandolin, and slide guitar,) it was the perfect musical match. They began playing their original music at coffee houses and lounges along the east coast of New Jersey and also New York City. They headlined as "The Featured Artist" at The Legendary Stone Pony in Asbury Park, N.J. on December 3rd 2009. They were also selected to be a 'Showcase Artist' at 2010 The Cape May Singer-Songwriter Music Festival and The Seaside Music Festival.
