Continuing on with the conversation, myself and the ladies of A&B get in-depth. Had to ask why the name change and new branding? Also, discussing their humbling beginnings and how they met, as well not feeling uncomfortable about their old sound, but fully embracing the future of their new sound. - Missanalvomit
Ultra-sexy NYC pop duo angela&bryanna have christened themselves the “female version of 2 Live Crew.” That’s not a comparison to take lightly, but with their witty lyrics and mix of ’80s break beats, ’90s R&B and modern electro, we’re gonna let them get away with it.
Known to their minions as “fly girls in HD” and to Cosmo magazine as “fun, fearless females,” the leather-and-spandex clad pair has already performed their upbeat dance beats and groovy take on hip hop on legendary New York stages alongside greats like Bone Thugs-N-Harmony and A Tribe Called Quest. Sardonic pelvic thrusting and smooth gyrations onstage paired with their high-energy crowd participation keeps the audience in a trance; these smart-mouthed, humorously-inclined babes know how to please the crowd and keep them wanting more. It’s not often that you’ll find a girl group as hilariously entertaining as angela&bryanna, and it’s even less frequent for a group like this to make music that stands up to their personalities. They’re rare birds, but they’re rare birds we need more of.
That’s why today, we’re thrusting our own pelvises in excitement, because we’re bringing you the exclusive premiere of the brand new video for their track “Thirsty Bitch.”
Inspired by desperate, obsessive male objects who always slink up to them after they perform looking for action, angela&bryanna wrote “Thirsty Bitch” as a way of poking fun at their man groupies.
The video, which takes a mighty strong stance against bitches that are thirsty, was directed by wiley, and features Jiana Davis from America’s Next Top Model as Thirsty Client #2. Jiana’s so thirsty in this, she’s clinically dehyrdrated, you guys. Pray for her.
“We basically wanted to make a comedic video, and came up with the fantasy idea of a matchmaking service,” a&b told us over email. “The company called “Thirst Quenchers” provides a service where women (and men) can nonchalantly get some eye candy action.”
In this case, the eye candy is Marco, an Old Spice commercial-worthy specimen of sexiness who’s hired by Thirst Quenchers to lifeguard at the beach. As various Thirsty Clients try to win him over, he shoots them down whilst his caramel skin and regrettable tattoos glisten in the sun. As you’ll see in the video, there’s a fine line between sexy and embarrassing and the Thirsty Bitches in the video are out to walk it as they vie for Marco’s meaty manhood. In the end, Marco sees a girl walk down the beach who’s just a regular old dime piece, not a Thirsty Bitch, and he chases after her. The moral of the story? Don’t be a Thirsty Bitch. Don’t do it, man.
Peep the vid, and have some electrolyte-y liquid handy in case you get parched.
You can find the “Thirsty Bitch” single on iTunes, Amazon & SoundCloud now, and if you need things to look forward to in your life, angela&bryanna’s upcoming “Thirsty Bitch” remix EP will feature Kenny Summit and Alexander Technique, Mike Dextro and DJ Your Honor. - POSTED BY ISABELLE on IHEARTCOMIX
Susanne Bartsch and her crew of club kids celebrated her exhibit, "Fashion Underground: The World of Susanne Bartsch" at FIT. Hundreds of her nightclub outfits are on display in a recreated nightclub within the space. Calvin Klein, Rupaul, Amanda Lepore, Bill Cunningham, and many others stopped in to see the show. The celebration migrated to Gramercy Theatre for Bartsch's KUNST party with music by DJs Amber Valentine, Juliana Huxtable, Exquisite, and the Carry Nation. - Maro Hagopian on The Village Voice
Sexy, Seductive, Wild, songstress duo A&B, formally known as Hrt Brk, came through with the flame, ‘Thirsty Bitch’ a new single release as revamped image A&B. Angela and Bryanna have made music together for five years. Repping the Lower Eastside of New York, they tap into 80’s Break Beats, 90’s R&B, a flare of Electro, as well a kick of Hip Hop. Known as the ‘Fly Girls,’ they will leave you under their time warp spell to slap you back into reality with their convictions.
The single ‘Thirsty Bitch’ was explained as a sarcastic diss to all the ‘thirsty’ guys from the after set. Annoyed by the weird fascination men would exude for the duo. Angela (the writer) decided to take the thirsty perspective as themselves, obsessing over a guy for humor. Thirsty Bitch is edgy, fun, and you will find yourself dancing.
Exclusive interview this week, don’t miss it! First, check out the heat ‘Thirsty Bitch’ by A&B. - Kiana Robinson
Hey Angela and Bryanna; thank you guys for taking time and sitting down with us, lets jump right into this interview.
SWIDLife: Where are you both from?
A&B: Both of us are originally from Detroit, but met in NYC.
SWIDLife: What do you guys think your listeners will get out of your music?
A&B: They’ll get a view inside the underground NYC scene.
SWIDLife: How do you guys separate yourself from other female duos, or artists as a whole?
A&B: Their a lot of female duo groups, but none like us. Most are just DJs. We write our own songs, pick our own producers, Angela sings and raps and Bryanna slays the stage as an MC.
SWIDLife: How many projects have you guys dropped, and names/date
A&B: We are a new dynamic duo as A&B. We released our first single and music video on 9/15 called Thirsty Bitch. The premiere was on iheartcomix and we received some great feedback!
SWIDLife: The growth of an artist is something that helps them find their true character. With that being said, how have the both of you grown as artists?
A&B: We’re growing by the second. Probably the most important growth on our part is that we don’t have to say yes to everyone. A lot of producers, photographers, videographers and party promoters want a piece. If it’s not a good fit we’re not afraid to say no!
SWIDLife: Are there any new projects that you’re currently working on that you can let your fans know about?
A&B: We are working a number of projects right now. We’re preparing for our next single and video Hooker! This is a sick dis rap that’ll slam the listeners jaw to the ground with just the opening line. Like the bridge says in the beginning : ”Shouldn’t mess with a lyricist. Bad move!” Our next single and video release is for a song called Force of Nature. We definitely stepped out of our element for this one. It’s very avant garde with slower hypnotic beats. We already shot the video and lets just say there’s latex and half-naked men with mad abs involved.
SWIDLife: Ya’ll probably get this question a lot, how would you guys describe your sound?
A&B: This is actually a tough one. We’re often described as retro and although we’re not totally against this, we’re so much more. We love a variety of music! We just rocked out at the last Black Sabbath concert here in NYC, but also love Blood Orange, Daft Punk, Pharrell. Well you get the idea! I suppose if we had to label ourselves we’d say Hip Hop Electrooooo!
SWIDLife: What motivated you guys to get into music?
A&B: Angela started out singing in choir in high school and college. Also loved writing poetry. Bryanna started out in performing arts and was also a DJ the first couple of years after moving to NYC. One night after splitting a 6 pack of Stellas, Bryanna was working on a new mix and Angela just started singing some of her poetry over it. They recorded some of it and here we are today!
SWIDLife: What do you want our readers and your fans to take from this interview?
A&B: We’d like them to be able to step into our world. History has shown that the underground scene in NYC eventually becomes the norm of the nation. We take our music very seriously, but never forget to have fun! - Mally Mac
