Based in NY, the 7 piece Anbessa Orchestra takes the listener to a musical journey from Addis to Brooklyn. The band’s deep grooves and tight horn lines emanate the sounds of 60’s-70’s Ethiopia while still retaining an original voice. Anbessa Orchestra explores music from the different regions and tribes in Ethiopia and combines them with more western elements such as Funk, Jazz R&B to create a unique blend of soul stirring, body shaking music. They have worked with Ethiopian music legends Hailu Mergia and Hamelmal Abate and have been featured on the “Beyond Addis Vol.2” compilation dedicated to modern, Ethiopian inspired music alongside bands such as The Daktaris (Daptone) and many more great bands.
