Imissed the opportunity to munch on $1 sliders by a few minutes but thankfully arrived at A1A Dive Bar just in time to hear the band Almost Blue crank into a ferocious version of Stevie Ray Vaughn's Cold Shot.
A1A Dive Bar, which sells sliders for a buck until midnight on Mondays, is at 3233 N. Ocean Blvd., Fort Lauderdale, and provides live music six nights a week with Tuesday night reserved for an ongoing karaoke contest. Almost Blue features a female lead singer who lays down the rhythm with her Fender Strat and breathes into the harp as playfully as Elwood Blues. This gritty blues, rock and funk foursome was recently added to the rotation; see its touring schedule at www.AlmostBlueBand.com.
A seven-foot statue of a smiling pirate with a parrot on his shoulder stands guard at the entrance of this bar. Oddly, he seems to be pointing down the block and away from the front door. Shortly after entering I realized that the pirate's misdirection was a subtle warning: If you're not ready to walk the plank into a night of utterly uninhibited behavior, steer clear.

Review from Miami New times April 2006 -
“If you've never been to the Scrap Bar on 71st St, you should check it out. Besides boasting Miami Beach's Best Smokehouse Style BBQ, There's some incredible local talent here Thurs-Sat nights. On a recent visit I checked out a band-"Almost Blue." The lead singer Amy Arlo blew me away. She's a modern day Janis Joplin with an intense emotionality to her voice that could make you break down & cry. The whole band was excellent and the best thing about this group is their hip arrangements of rock tunes, soulful blues and music that brings back memories from an era we all miss. “
