Quotes

“ATT blasted out of the gates, setting a pace that didn't let up for the duration of their set. It's rare to see a six-piece band exhibiting this level of instrumental harmony. Three guitars are never a bad idea. It's also never wrong to attempt to play a guitar with a violin bow. Before long, Amos The Transparent will be headlining shows of this size instead of opening them”. - Chart Attack

“Amos’ live performance is filled with nice surprises; layers of sound, beautifully held harmonies, pan-band vocals, call and answer sequences with the crowd, and even friendly sing-a-longs onstage…as seen during the tail end of “Greater than Consequence”, creating one of those inexplicable, tingly concert moments” – I Heart Music

“Amicable, unpretentious and just plain fun, the Ottawa band was a flurry of hand-claps, smiles and harmonies that left me wanting to run home and spend the rest of NXNE listening to their recorded output” – Wolves Hawks and Kites

"Tracks that resonate with pop crystals, soothing tinkles and melancholy vocals...as well as a degree of originality that keeps the listener hooked until the very last drop."-Exclaim.ca

“One of the most beautiful, intimate and intricate albums of the year…the album is relentlessly god- like in its songwriting and arrangements.” -Some Velvet Blog

“A collision of folk song intimacy and classic rock anthemicism, fused together by a deep melodic and melancholic streak.” -Chromewaves.net

“A tour-de-force of indie-pop mastery and one of 2007’s hidden gems.”
-StereoSubversion.com

“Wiry folk/indie pop that sways and swells with amazing precision.” -HeroHill.com

“Smooth, versatile and intricate…one of the best kept secrets of the year in
Canadian indie rock.” -ItsNotTheBandsIHateItsTheirFans Blog

“Quite possibly the best band to come out of Ottawa since.......well, maybe since
forever. Everything I’ve Forgotten to Forget is an interesting concoction of many
different, familiar genres, making it feel like home even at your first stay.”

"CD Review - EIFTF"

One of the most beautiful, intimate and intricate albums of the year...the album is relentlessly god-like in it's songwriting and arrangements. - Some Velvet Blog

"CD Review - EIFTF"

Wiry folk / indie pop that sways and swells with amazing precision...there is going to have to be a rush of amazing records to bump this from my year-end list. - Hero Hill.com

"CD Review - EIFTF"

Simple yet thoughtful, Amos the Transparent is from invisible but rousingly thin in texture from the first note on Title Track through the last puttering string of I’m On Trial. Charming, melodic vocals donate a constant harmony to the album, rounded out with a vocal appearance by Stars and Broken Social Scene songbird Amy Millan. Brief surges in orchestral stimulation fill Everything I’ve Forgotten to Forget with well-timed musical surprise and measures that are quickly memorable. - Metro Toronto

"CD Review - Teeth"

"I have to admit that I have been listening to this CD a fair bit, probably 2-3 times a day over the last several days and find that it does not stand up to that many repeated listenings. I was heartily sick of “Lemons” by today." - Sheila at AWmusic

"CD Review - Teeth"

"...when Jonathan sent over the songs from the new Amos EP, I was a wee bit excited. My, What Big Teeth You Have is the first new material to surface since their record, and expectations were high. With the success and acclaim the LP got, you could almost expect the band to craft another collection of epics and wait for the praise to come in. Instead, AtT throws the listener a steady diet of nicely executed change ups to keep you guessing, but never fails to deliver on quality." - Herohill.com

Bio

Someone once said... the worst thing about an Amos the Transparent show is you never know who is going to be on stage, which instruments they are going to play and how they are going to arrange the songs. Soon after someone else stated that the best thing about an Amos the Transparent show is that you never know who is going to be stage, which instruments they are going to play and how they are going to arrange the songs.

Amos the Transparent began as a studio project in 2006. Lead singer, Jon Chandler, was sitting on a landmine of tunes with no intention of recording them. A long-time friend and collaborator drummer, Chris Wilson, convinced Jon step into the studio and track his songs. This inevitably led to a 13-song record entitled Everything Ive Forgotten to Forget and was release on Pop Culture Records/Fontana North in August of 2007. The album was well received and put Amos on the Canadian music charts.  Notably, the song After All That, Its Come to This, was a duet featuring artist Amy Millan, and was featured in the 2011 ad campaign for the website Plenty of Fish.

After the first album was released, Jon and Chris realized they were in need of a full piece band in order to capture the sound of every song. Amos the Transparent came to life as a 7-piece band and with its members Amos began to perform regularly playing at festivals like NXNW, CMW and Ottawas Bluesfest and Folk Fest.

Not before long, the groups popularity became apparent and Amos began, and continues, to develop a strong following. The next album brought on new members and new sounds. With the bands addition of guitarist, Dan Hay, and bassist, James Nicol, Amos five song EP My, What Big Teeth You Have was recorded in a mere two weeks in Ottawa, Ontario.  Soon after its release, the group created an animated video for the single Lemons with the help of Ottawa artist Digital Henchmen.  The EP hit the Canadian music charts and gained a strong appreciation from music followers alike. This lead to Amos performing at SXSW, Big Sound Festival in Australia and the single Greater Than Consequence landed airtime on MTVs show, Degrassi.

In 2011, new members joined the group including cellist, Mike Yates, and female vocalist, Kate Sargent. The album release of Goodnight, My DearIm Falling Apart, was recorded as two separate EPs. Individually, the two EPs showcased both the light and dark side of Amos the Transparent lyrically and instrumentally demonstrating their artistic abilities in all realm of the folk rock scene.

The music videos for their singles Sure As The Weather and Says The Spark were created and, outside of their parents dinner parties, the songs hit the charts in style achieving high praise from the masses. Sirius XM radio made Amos the featured artist for a month and was showcased in the previews for Famous Players theatres across Canada. Other notable moments include their nomination for artist of the year at the Verge awards, and being hosted on CBCs radio show Q with Jian Ghomeshi wherein Amos was referred to as the Canadian Wilco.

The year 2013 brought on new inspiration and Amos began to write a new record. Prior to recording the new tracks, Amos took on and welcomed their newest female addition, Olenka Reshitnyk.

Needless to say, the band has been brought to a full circle with six musicians, Jon Chandler, Chris Wilson, Dan Hay, James Nicol, Mike Yates and Olenka Reshitnyk. Amos the Transparent anxiously anticipate finalizing and releasing their next album scheduled for the Spring 2014.

Take care of each other.
