From the first bars my ears were very happy with what they were hearing. In an almost Bloc Party-esque style they display just how proficient drummer Michael Mihalovic and Alibrandi is. Not to mention their willingness to embrace and express their feelings through their lyrics.
Now I've had the pleasure of seeing these guys live a few times and ‘The Emergency’, their 5 track EP, definitely lives up to the live show i have witnessed. Their style is a nice fusion of indie and traditional rock driven stylings.
This record has an underlying angst, but when paired with the dynamic live performance of this Brisbane act it allows for a connection with fans. “Your not the same, you never could be”. Whilst this is a short release it packs a punch like any full length that i have listened to of late.
Each track possesses its own emotional rawness and captures attention from the very first utterances from singer Nathaniel McManus’ recognisable voice. Closing track Near Perfect Shaped Adonis is a power packet and ties everything together and leaves us with a memorable finish.

Alibrandi hail from Brisbane, a city that has provided Australia with some of the best bands this country has ever heard. ‘The Emergency’ is their debut EP, which was recorded at Loose Stones Studios. With nothing to lose and everything to prove, Alibrandi are at the beginning of a promising career.
Alibrandi introduce themselves to the listener with ‘Even Lions May Fall’. The opening guitar riff immediately grabs your attention and makes sure you will not be changing the CD anytime soon. Followed by ‘If You Play Now, You Pay Later’, a song that has so much dirty attitude that a pissed off bogan would be impressed. Throughout every song on this EP, the listener will not be able to control their feet from tapping and singing along. ‘The Emergency’ ends with their most ambitious song yet, ‘Near Perfect Shaped Adonis’. The song has a closing that sounds familiar to the almighty Thrice.

To start off the evening of pop rock guilty pleasures, self described indie rock five piece, Alibrandi kicked off their set with fast paced, catchy rock. Featuring a slightly unusual line up of thee guitars, bass and drums, the set flowed easily through a number of tracks off their most recent EP The Emergency. Featuring numerous break downs and vocals reminiscent of Gyroscope’s Daniel Sanders, the boys proved to be both talented and charismatic, interacting well with the crowd and getting friends up on the stage for cameo vocals.

A cold and gloomy Friday night in Brizvegas would be ideal for staying home rugged up watching an old Clint Eastwood western film while drinking some Jack and eating M&Ms, but not this mofo. With a couple of friends we braced the cold and drizzle to check out Alibrandi at X&Y.
After getting warmed up and watching impressive sets from Melbourne’s Cave Of The Swallows and We Set Sail, Alibrandi took the stage. Being the first time I’ve seen these guys, I was pretty impressed with drummer Michael Mihailovic. He can sure belt out some good beats, nicely held together by guitarist/vocalist Nathaniel McManu and David Thomas to produce some good indie rock tunes. It was really good to see these guys pull a big crowd, too.

From the Bloc Party-influenced intro of opening track Even Lions May Fail, indie rock four-piece Alibrandi show off both the drumming prowess of Michael Mihailovic and their willingness to talk about their feelings. On their five-track EP, The Emergency, the Brisbane boys display a greater predilection for traditional guitar-driven rock choruses and a shade more angst than Kele et al. This angst will both differentiate the band and polarise potential fans; the EP is cleanly produced and foreshadows a passionate live performance but the emo undertones in the lyrics won’t be for everyone. Near-Perfect Shaped Adonis defiantly asks, “Was it worth it? Did you love it? Did he give you all I couldn’t?” while the following piano break provides a, perhaps under-utilised, alternative to the otherwise omnipresent electric guitars. Alibrandi mix up infectious melodies and hard-hitting riffs with their own brand of post-punk, alternative-rock.
The debut EP and single were produced by Shane Graham and mastered in Seattle by Troy Glessner (Death Cab For Cutie, Anderlin, Underoath) this debut is a full of tight rock anthem’s, reminiscent of Manchester Orchestra, Bloc Party and hints of Sparta.
2011 also included an east coast tour with the year being bookend by packed out local shows, now, 2012 brings the next step in this hyped Australian bands career.
Already in 2012, Alibrandi has been selected for FUSE Festival, one of Australia’s respected music industry showcases. They have also been announced for the national Rock The Schools Tour, a commercial High School tour encompassing each state of Australia that will see Alibrandi perform at 10 schools and to over 5000 young adults between the ages of 13-17.
Alibrandi performed their first N. American music industry showcase at the Worldwide Radio Summit on Saturday April 28th at 9.30PM at S.I.R. Studios Hollywood, and had the opportunity to play the famous Viper Room within the same week. Their debut N. American Single 'Even Lions May Fall' is currently on rotation throughout the US.
