Bio
AL HAMMERMAN
Composer, Lyricist, Producer, Educator
“Do not lose your audience” is the lesson veteran composer, Al Hammerman learned from his mom and still lives by to this day. He strives for songs that capture the hearts and imagination of each listener, songs that linger long after they end.
With an aptitude for creating an impressive array of commercially and artistically successful songs, Al’s consummate collection is on pace to be remembered as significant contemporary standards. He initially became a hero to families touched by the Make-A-Wish Foundation® as a result of a song he donated. This led to the recent production of his smash albums “All New Songs” and “Just Lucky” as well as two major benefit concerts of his music held at the Sheldon Concert Hall. Hammerman’s timeless words and music were also highlighted with full choreography during the Make-A-Wish Foundation’s ® Gala, featuring the fabulous St. Louis Muny Kids.
Imagine music with all the style of American Songbook composers such as Gershwin, Porter and Berlin, as well as musical theater’s Rogers & Hammerstein, Sondheim and Arlen. Intertwine these styles with rhythms of Jazz, Pop and Latin influences, for Al’s smart, sophisticated and patented sound.
“Dream big and dare to fail” is Hammerman’s favorite quote. Al takes his work, but not himself, very seriously and while often not adhering to the traditional path; his extraordinary character is none-the-less exemplified by a code of always “doing the right thing”.
Born in St. Louis, Missouri, the son of an advertising executive and a talented dancer, Al started composing as a youth, at the music conservatory and has not stopped for over a quarter century. The scholarly type, he considers music an “escape” from his medical career. While he continues his interests in song composition, he also teaches at the university level and collects antique musical instruments dating back to the 16th century.
Watch for Al’s songs to become an integral part of the American life tapestry, helping to shape the sound evolution of the genre.
