Bio
Born in the Dominican Republic, this singer/songwriter of Haitian descent started playing the guitar at 15. He came to New York and attended Manhattanville College, where he first began writing and composing music with his brother Jean-Marc.
Alex and Jean-Marc grew to form a songwriting powerhouse that has sparked the interest of both independent and major music labels. Their song One Way Street, won The Punisher Video Game Contest, earning the Berne Brothers a spot in The Punisher video game soundtrack in 2004.
2006 marked a major milestone in Alexs songwriting career, as the song Canta Por Ella, co-written with his brother Jean-Marc, was published by Bad Boy Latino. The song is performed by recording artist Christian Daniel. (For more info, please visit www.christiandaniel.com/en, or http://www.atlanticrecords.com/christiandaniel/music/?release=33500025)
During this time, Alex formed his own band, N/A (Not Applicable). As the lead singer and guitarist, Alex teamed up with bassist Dave Metcalfe and percussionist Matt Marcella. Alex took his rhythmically powerful and melodic music to the public, debuting at New York Citys Acme Underground on September 17, 2001.
Alex found his home in NYC, performing at such historical clubs as Downtime, CBGBs, CBs 313 Gallery, and the Continental. Alex has been featured in an online broadcast on MusicTV.com, as well as several webcasts on CBGB.com. Additionally, he has received airplay in Connecticut on WKSS 95.7, WHUS 91.7, in Maine on WRFR 93.3, in the Dominican Republic on VIVA 94.1, in the Philippines, as well as 1-800-CALLATT Internet Radio.
Since then, the band "N/A" has parted ways.
In mid-2010 Alex wrote his new single, "One Voice," inspired by Dominican swimmer Marcos Diazs incredible mission to swim across the continents in his efforts to raise the voices of the World and show that we are not that far apart. Alex joined Marco Diaz and his organization, Swim Across the Continents, and the United Nations, with the purpose to bring global attention to the Millennium Development Goals and invite people to act and demand that our World leaders keep their promises by 2015. That September in Long Island City, NY, at Marcos last symbolic swim and closing ceremony for his amazing achievement, alongside Secretary of the United Nations Ban-Kin-Moon, Alex performed his song One Voice.
Alex is now pursuing a solo career with his new band as "Alex Berne". He is currently in the studio, working on a full-length album.
