Bio
Forming from the seed of an abstract notion, Abalone Penguin emerged at South Loop Cloudland Penthouse Studio with work on their first CD, 6 to 1, released in 2001 on Natural Selection Records. 6 different styles - 1 CD - a natural rebellion against the concept of a specific "sound" for a band - an attempt to break out and explore different realms of musical expression and encourage listeners to experience and enjoy sounds they may not have realized they can appreciate. Originally a power trio featuring Randal Huiskens on drums, Songwriter/guitarist Alex Sosa, and Angela Belanger on bass, AP played a few shows around Chicago in 2001 and 2002. AP released Positive/Negative in 2003, with special guest on saxaphone, Tim Rutkowski. Also in 2003, AP added JC Jordan on Keyboards and Vocals, and continued to play shows. Randal moved on to other projects, and Dominic Vaglica took over on Drums. Angela also moved on, and after a brief stint on bass by Chris Check, John Duncan joined AP in 2004. The current AP became more of a live band in 2004 and 2005, playing more shows and establishing a solid lock on a widening body of material. In 2006 they completed their 3rd original cd called "No One Here is From Here"
