Singer, songwriter and producer A-Lex ended 2017 with a Grammy nomination and is looking toward more success starting in 2018.

Born and raised in Decatur, Georgia, Alexander Lloyd has been writing music since 2008. Lloyd has been on a steady climb making his name known with his work instead of his flash. In that time, Lloyd gained the opportunity to work with Musiq Soulchild on his recent album, Feel the Real.

Layers Vol. 1 is a collaborative album that resembles the format of projects by DJ Khaled with feature-based content. Here A-Lex showcases his talents as both an artist and a producer. Layers represents the power that’s created when people come together. You might be strong alone but you’re still just one person. When you come together with the right energy, you vibrate higher and much more becomes possible. The entire album is about collaboration and connecting with each other. Every person added their own color and energy to it and the result of that was not only Layers, the album, but Layers the brand as well.

He describes his sound as Pop/Soul, gathering influence from artists such as Musiq Soulchild, Frank Ocean, & Andre 3000. A-Lex began his career as a songwriter in 2008. Since that time, he has written for iconic recording artists such as Austin Mahone, Keke Palmer, and Musiq Soulchild on his Grammy Nominated album “Feel The Real”.


Most recently, A-Lex released a single featuring Musiq Soulchild & The Husel. The song is titled ‘Goals’.

Today we’d like to introduce you to A-Lex.

Thanks for sharing your story with us A-Lex. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My name is A-Lex and I’m a producer, singer, and Grammy Nominated songwriter from Decatur, Ga. I started writing songs in 2008. Over time I developed different skills like producing, engineering, and vocal production. I’ve worked with Musiq Soulchild, Keke Palmer, Trippie Redd, & T Pain just to name a few. Most of the artists I work with have come from my relationships with other producers that help connect me with them.

Sometimes it’s different though. I met Musiq Soulchild while I was working at a record store on Peters Street in Atlanta. I stopped him while he was walking past my store, he let me and my friends share some music, and we started working with him the next day.

That was 5 years ago. Now I have my first Grammy nomination from working with Musiq on his latest album “Feel The Real”. Even though I’m 10 years in with the music industry now, I know my story is just beginning.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It hasn’t necessarily been a smooth road, but I wouldn’t say that the road is tough either. Anything that’s worth having in life will come with sacrifice and hard work. I love music, so all that comes with the process of becoming successful, I accept willingly.

The biggest challenges I’ve had come from my mind. Self-doubt can be paralyzing. For a long time I didn’t believe in myself 100%, but as I’ve grown and built my confidence I realize that believing in myself makes any obstacle much less relevant.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
My stage name is A-Lex and my brand name is “Layers”. People mostly know me as a songwriter but with upcoming releases, they will get to know me as an artist and producer. “Layers” comes from a compilation album series that I recently created and extends to artist merch and clothing.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I do music for the love, but I truly believe in making a living from your art. Success to me is to have financial freedom while making music I love and staying true to myself.

Grammy’s and Hall of Fame inductions would be great, but if I can stay debt free, spend time and provide a comfortable life for my family, and work for myself I’ll be happy.
