Sometimes more of a comedic act than a band, Armida and Her Imaginary Band—which is, in fact, imaginary—produces a sound and show unlike anything you’ve seen before. Consisting solely of Armida Lowe on vocals and, at one time or another, the ukulele, electric pump organ, percussion, and kazoo, Ms. Lowe and her non-existent band bring a soulful, bluesy sound to the district’s bars and lounges. Her sometimes shocking lyrics and undoubtedly different sound won’t be everyone’s cup of tea, but there is no denying Armida’s humorous angle or old-timey mystique.

Bio
Armida Lowe is an Annapolis-based singer-songwriter whose soulful stylings combine storytelling sensibilities with simple, catchy melodies and a delightfully dark sense of humor. Her songs transport listeners to a different time and place, from the seedy dancehalls of turn-of-the-century Baltimore to the sprawling slums of modern-day Port-au-Prince, Haiti, to the desolate borderlands of the American Southwest during the golden age of lawlessness.
Armida deals with themes of desire, discontent, frailty and redemption. Her music has a timeless appeal, reminiscent of pop songwriters who rose to fame in the late 60s and early 70s. Like her influences Harry Nilsson and Randy Newman, she draws on an earlier musical era for inspiration, but manages to evade the dreaded "retro" label by cultivating a distinct, contemporary style.
