Angelique Henle

My name is Angelique Henle. I am a Singer, Songwriter, Musician, and Producer. I was born in Aurora, Colorado; I moved to Ellicott City, Maryland when I was 9, and have been living in the Baltimore area ever since. 

I've been playing live and entertaining for more than thirteen years. In 2005, I won the Korean Star Search East Coast Competition after performing one of my original songs “No One In Particular”. I also won the Voice of Pride in 2005 which allowed me to perform on the main stage at the Baltimore Pride festival, opening up for RuPaul. I've played numerous stages including: Rams Head Live Baltimore, SoundStage Baltimore (opening act for Girlyman), QuickCheck NJ Ballooning Festival (opening act for Meatloaf...Yes...I opened for Meatloaf!!), Towson State University Arena, Bourbon Street Ballroom, Edgestock Music Festival, Headliner for 2009 Maryland Special Olympics Summer Games Opening Ceremonies, 2010 Polar Bear Plunge for Maryland Special Olympics with crowds of 30K+, MD Book Festival, Maryland Artscape Festival, The Mint in Los Angeles, California, and many NY City clubs including The Bitter End, The Delancey, and National Underground. I also received some airplay on WRNR Annapolis Radio and on Baltimore’s 98 Rock Radio Station. 

I was signed to a Baltimore based indie label in 2010 and released my first professionally produced CD called "Photograph" which can be downloaded on iTunes. I parted ways with them in 2012 and have been independent ever since. Recently, I began recording and producing my own music, which I am hoping to release as an EP in the very near future.

Music has always been a part of me. My relationship with music runs deep; it is a passion for me that knows no limits or bounds. It is the measuring stick by which I marked my growth.  Before I could count, I could sing. At age 5, I began playing the piano.  In the 4th grade, I learned to play the violin, and at 15, I picked up guitar at a church camp. Encouraging my development, my parents got me my first Fender acoustic when I was 16 and I promptly started to teach myself to play and to write my own songs. Within my first year of having my guitar, I had written well over twenty original songs and released home recorded demos in the years following. I began performing my songs in front of people starting out in Church, and then moving on to playing for my high school at the school’s “coffee shops”. The Coffee Shops really helped me to hone in on performing and getting over the stage fright as I forced myself to play and be completely vulnerable in front of a room full of peers. Everyone knows how hard high school can be. But, as it turns out my vulnerability, and the things that I sang about, were things that we all had in common and were things that we all shared. 

I write songs based off of personal experiences, the experiences through other people’s eyes, and the about world around me. Songwriting has always been my outlet to express emotion. I use it mostly to tell a story - sometimes it’s a story that I have created to express a deep seated feeling whether it be love, sorrow, anger, confusion, loss, happiness, or even general angst. It’s how I have always felt like I can communicate with the world around me. It was, and sometimes still is, very difficult for me to articulate the things that I am feeling or thinking out loud; but, when I sit down and write out my thoughts and put it all to music, it all makes sense.  Music has helped me through some of the hardest times in life and at some points was the only thing that I could turn to for solace and comfort. Through the years it has been my best friend, teacher, safe haven, and the place inside myself that I can escape to to work things out. I have never stopped learning about myself through music and the art of creating it. I have always been drawn to music and songs that had meaning and that moved me - even at a young age. When I listened to music, I would listen hard for the story, the message, the emotions…not just to the beat. So, when I started creating music, I knew I wanted to be an artist that spoke about the profound things in life, and have never wanted any of my songs to be without any meaning. I have been influenced throughout the years by so many different genres of music, and by so many different artists. I know I wouldn't be who I am if it wasn't for all the music that I listened to growing up  like Annie Lennox, Simon and Garfunkel, James Taylor, Phil Colins, The Beatles, Sarah McLaughlin (thanks mom and dad); the artists I fell in love with as a teenager such as Jewel, Goo Goo Dolls, LifeHouse, Garth Brooks, Alison Krauss; and the continuing evolution of the music I listen to and connect with today.
