Bio

Laurie and Rick Williams write a very eclectic compilation of music. Rick is known best for
his haunting and beautiful compositions and Laurie is most noted for her
cut-to-the-heart poetic lyrics. She is heavily influenced by the political and poetic songwriters of the 60's, such as Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan, Judy Collins, Joni Mitchell and their ilk. She is a recognized lyricist.
Laurie holds degrees in theatre, Music and English from the
University of Denver and wrote her first song in the first grade. She has won
nationally acclaimed awards (i.e., Rod Serling Writer's Competition, New
Writer's Award, Trailblazers Literary magazine) for her creative writing and was honored by having their song, "Between Iraq and a Hard Place" written up and played during 'PEACE WEEK' at the University of Denver, Laurie's alma mater.
She found her true niche in lyrical composition
collaborating with her husband Rick.

Artist - Short Description:

We are award winning songwriters who write very ecclectic stuff from old timy country to instrumental movie scoring. We write children's songs ('Ava's Lullaby' has been selected to be reviewed by a good music mag) to jazz and blues. Rick is heavy into Bluegrass and Laurie into writing from 'the dark side'. We are NOT caught in a genre rut!
Laurie is a former opera singer and journalist turned lyracist and music critic after her voice was wiped out in a near fatal car accident while on tour in Canada.
Rick was on the road for years in the Gospel circuit with his family, then did the "Fair Circuit", lounge lizzard circuit, met Laurie and got a Ph.D in Clinical Psychology. He is the "singing shrink" and does the music composition and arranging. He also has a fabulous voice and is a master acoustic guitarist - but has given up his days on the road except weekends in the summer when he is busy being a Bluegrass star all over the country. . We have a recording studio and great songs...looking for artists or publishers. We want to thank all the "honorary" members of "SONGWRITERS" who pop in and out of our studio to help out on any given Sunday.
We have awards, publications, compilations, reviews and international airplay out the wazoo.....good for us!!

Rick Williams started singing in his family's musical gospel group when he
was 9-years old, and "The Williams Family" performed in church, radio and
television venues. The family expanded into popular music and frequently
appeared as the opening act for stars on the Fair circuit. Rick started
writing music in his early teens and has become known for the distinctively
haunting and melodic quality of his work. Rick put himself through college
working as a musician at night while he obtained his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology.
(His friends affectionately call him "the singing shrink.")
While living in Arizona, they were member of the Arizona Songwriters
Association and showcased music on a regular basis. Rick has received several
songwriting awards, including a second place and two Honorable mentions, in the
American Songwriter's Contest They are members of an international songwriter's
group "Imaginotions" and through this group, have collaborated with songwriters and
artists all over the world. Their latest endeavor was to contribute 2 songs to
"Children In Need"and "Children For a Better World" in the UK. They are the equivalent of our country's largest
telethons. British recording artist, James Martyn sang their songs over the BBC
and at many live performances sponsored by the BBC. The event was enormously
successful and the proceeds from the fundraiser brought their name as
songwriters to the attention of the BBC. Their music is now being played in the
UK and on Radio stations in Belgium. They also were commissioned by the Arizona,
Phoenix Children's Hospital "Emily Foundation" to write a song for their annual
fundraiser. The song, "It's Magical" helped the foundation raise thousands of
dollars. It has also been used by a skater in a championship showcase.

Laurie and Rick have been busy in many collaborative efforts and just
finished contributing a song that will be on an accompanying CD for the book, "A
Primer for Us Working Souls", by M. L. Stevens.
Laurie and Rick were chosen to serve on a panel of judges for 2 very prestigious
US based songwriting contest this year.
Their lullaby, 'Ava's Lullaby' has been in the number 1 and 2 spot for the past a year running at Broadjam.
