I did a little research on them earlier in the month once I knew they'd be part of the lineup and had an uneasy chill as to what I should expect. And, again, I was misconstrued with trusting some logical instinct instead of investing myself to the gut-spewing tale of ambiguous feeling. A capsizing lust my caved-in chest was unable to register. Urbe Prima had a sporadic show. They relinquished the comfort-zone and tapped into roots unseen in YouTube clips. There is an undeniable magnetism to their waves of reverberation.

My level: risen above the initially tired eyes.

These guys are definitely underrated. Even in the midst of Leo's bad jokes I could see the invisible connection between all the mates of this group. There's a sincere infection good music has stemming from conjoined mentality and relentless voice belting to an eclipsed beat in life's struggle. Ishtar's vocalic definition made my hair stand on end. And I still feel punctured from the rhythmic braille Urbe Prima's drumsticks imprinted in my ear.

Urbe Prima just might be the first Spanish band featured on this blog. I needn’t preface this post with such a statement, but one would argue that such a feat is a completely separate and noteworthy honor altogether. While Rock for Hunger certainly strives for diversity and an even keel, it’s surprising to find out how much Latin music is neglected in our network. Or perhaps it’s the scene itself…?

No matter the case, the three men of Urbe Prima are talented. Leo, the band’s frontman has been taking part in RFH events for over a year now. I remember witnessing him perform at the Ten Thousand Villages event about a year ago with G-Ro and the Sneakers. At the time, I had never met him, but I was pleased to discover him at such a fun event. Even without the band behind him, you could easily identify with his songwriting and knack for song construction.
Leo and his whole band will be playing the Plaza Theatre on July 17th. I would suggest you take the time to come on down to Bumby and witness the Spanish sensations behind Rock for Hunger.

Nativos de la Florida Central, Urbe Prima es una banda muy importante en la escena de la musica alternativa. Esta banda esta formada por Leo (Voz y Guitarra), Trevor (Bajo), Carlos (Bateria y Percusion), presenta letras que trascienden desde lo mas sencillo y poetico hasta lo politico y filosofico. URBE PRIMA cautiva a sus audiencias por medio de una combinacion de ritmos nativos de Latinoamerica con el Blues, Funk, y musica Alternativa. Rock alternativo en español fusionado con Funk, Psicodelia y Metal es lo que la gente de UrbePrima nos trae a Orlando.

Una Banda que con su fuerza y su originalidad, nos llena de satisfacción de saber que son un producto Hispano. En Julio del 2008 lanzaron su primer álbum titulado “Torpes Intentos de Libertad” los ha hecho evolucionar de tal forma que se han convertido en los unificadores de muchas de las bandas en la región con el fin de promoverse mutuamente y llevar el Rock en español a otro nivel.

Un sonido muy particular, y una voz muy única son las características principales de esta banda local. Ellos traen frescura y originalidad en la escena musical. Estos tres integrantes “Leo” voz y guitarra, original de Colombia; “Simon” en la batería y percusión, original de Venezuela; “Hugo” en el bajo y original de Venezuela, conforman esta agrupación que promete mucho a esta región.

UrbePrima está en el proceso de la culminación de su primer video musical y el lanzamiento de su nueva producción que será titulada “Fenix” y al mismo tiempo seguir recorriendo los escenarios de las grandes ciudades tales como Miami, Tampa y New York.

Urbe Prima wants to put Orlando in the map with this self produced album that shows the band’s heavy bluesy-rock influence, honestly dark lyrics and 90’s grunge sound rendition, all en español! Urbe Prima’s music is driven by Leo Linares’ confident vocals with a theatrical Enrique Bunbury feel, and sad and melancholic lyrics that emphasize sentimental struggles of all sorts.

A very nice effort and a comforting promise that even in Mickey Mouse land there are true Sudamerican Rockers who refuse to dance to mainstream reggeaton for an artistic living. Track highlights: “Contrareloj”, my personal favorite, shows a more classic rock influence, “Flotando” and “Ice (Crystalize my heart)”.

I personally got a chance to catch them live down in Miami recently and can tell you this guys deserve all the support for their hard work. Well done Urbe! - Fabrikalink.com
