Primms Release "A Long Way From Eden"
UK imports The Primms are set to officially release their first US EP "A Long Way From Eden." This band's sound might just be your cup of tea, especially if you've long hungered for Radiohead to revisit their earlier style (not bloody likely, especially with Thom Yorke about to release a solo effort). Wails escaping vocalist Andy Primm, such as in the song 'Do You Know the Future' (listen at myspace.com/primms), also evoke the likeness of Matt Belamy from the UK band Muse. Choosing to pay their dues to this city rather than forging success abroad and launching an attack on our airwaves with a snide, holier-than-thou attitude as many acts can, The Primms seem better off for it. They will be unveiling their new album at Sin-e on Friday the 16th. Other acts on the bill that night include The Holy Fire, The Young Lords, and Saints and Lovers. - Sara Nowak

The Primms manage to mix a handful of influences together without ever sounding derivative. The urgency and building intensity of the songs seem to reach near-epic levels at points, and it's refreshing to hear someone who doesn't hold back in creating a unique brand of music. This is the type of band that is made to perform live, never settling as background music and always insisting on the attention of the audience throughout the set. They are playing tonight at Pianos in support of the Bravo Silva residency. They go on first (7:30pm), so be sure to get there early.

Bio
Moving to New York City from the UK in the dead of winter, with $317.68, and only a few tracks laid down is not the typical route a rock band wants to start their rise from obscurity. But it was these circumstances that provided the catalyst that fueled The PRiMMS creative force. By existing in such an isolating metropolis meant that the hardships experienced in their everyday lives poured into the very music they were creating. Those experiences coupled with their optimism and vulnerability (a seemingly English peculiarity) produces The PRiMMS unique fusion of the hard and the soft, the ugly and the beautiful, and the familiar with the unfamiliar.
Although The PRiMMS have been playing together for a few years, its only been since their arrival in New York City that the band has felt like its grown and achieved the one thing they desire most -- sincerity and reality in the music they are making.
Comprised of only four members, The PRiMMS create a sound that is richer and more three-dimensional than youre your typical four-man band. The soaring vocals above the heavy yet catchy guitar riffs create a dramatic landscape of sound. Along with the thick bass lines and inventive drumming, The PRiMMS' sound comes together as beautifully melodic yet heavy and jagged.
The group created a buzz in the UK with the release of their first radio single, Do You Know The Future. The single earned them stellar reviews as well as radio play and a successful tour throughout the United Kingdom. Unfortunately, that buzz hadnt yet reached across the pond to the United States where they were virtually unknown upon their arrival. Over their short tenure in NYC to date they have started gaining a great deal of attention with the release of their first 2 EPs in 2006. Also in 2006, Billboard & Discmakers voted The Primms one of the top 6 Northeast bands (out of 1300). They've shared the stage with other buzz bands such as The Cribs, Illinois, The Strays, We Are Wolves, and Har Mar Superstar, and others. During the summer of 2007 you can catch The Primms on Fox's Fearless Music program, and live footage of the band is available at BaebleMusic.com of their headlining Knitting Factory show in January. The band is currently in the studio and will have their most anticipated release to date available this fall, featuring the single "Arrest The Pretty Girls" which has been gaining buzz from a rough live clip circulating the internet. This will be the band's first full-length release and will be engineered by Dave Swope of Sony Studios fame, and mixed by Steve Hardy (Vertical Horizon, Rob Thomas, Razorlight).
