With half hour sets and quick set up times, high scale theatrics weren't something you came across too often at BIGSOUND. However, one moment that everyone seems to be talking about is when the guitarist from good friends of the AU, The Lazys, climbed on top of a trailer at the OzTix party. It was a moment that would make Airbourne proud and helped set the rock and roll band apart from the rest.
AU REVIEW 2013 - AU REVIEW
"Best band I've seen in ten years!" Colin MacDonald (The Trews) -
"I love this band and this could bring rock back big time!" GGGarth Richardson - Producer (Rage Against The Machine, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Biffy Clyro) -
"The Lazy's may just be the new saviors of rock n' roll, hands down they are the best new live band I've seen all year" - Ian D'Sa (Billy Talent) -
Last night at The Annandale, local {well they were originally based on the Central Coast} band The Lazys fired up a packed house, maybe 500 people or so, on a cold and wet Thursday night, with their high intensity, full-on performance.
This is a pretty good heavy rock band, well that’s the genre where I would place them. Not a lot of headroom here for melody and ham sandwiches on a Sunday afternoon with Mum, but pretty raw stuff, with plenty of thrash energy – particularly from Leon Harrison on lead vocals and Matt Morris lead guitar.
Comparisons with AC/DC are hard to resist. It is that kind of show – complete with the Angus-type antics from Matt Morris and Bon-type presentation from Leon Harrison on the scream box.
The Lazys – nothing lazy about these lads. If you appreciate loud energy, plenty of attitude and a limited, florid vocabulary, hard yakka – get out and see them – they’ll be at The Sydney Blues Festival in October in Windsor. Not sure how they qualify as a blues band, this is hard rock, but then look at the rest of the bill.
- Johnny Au Review
I first met the boys from The Lazys in Adelaide. They looked tired as hell, and after brief conversation was disclosed they had played a very late show in Sydney the night before, and took the first flight from Sydney to Adelaide that morning. Fresh off the plane, hungover and tired, these rock n roll stars had to sit in conferences all day, and play again at 11pm that same night. It might sound like a tough life, but rock n roll oozes from the pores of these 5 men, and there was not an ounce of struggle between them.
Who are The Lazys you ask? Why haven’t I heard them you ask? Great questions…If you were to cross the gravel road AC/DC once travelled, and the sweat and guts from every member of every hard rocking band that ever graced a stage, you would quite possibly find the finest band that rock n roll has ever produced… The Lazys. When you catch a Lazys’ live show…and you better…you will be completely hooked. You will never want to see a live band again, just in case they aren’t as insanely energetic as this Terigal 5 piece. Chances are, they aren’t going to be. This band should be headlining the biggest festivals on the planet, and can see that in the not too distant future…surely will be. - SHANE DOWNEY

With their loud & raucous rock, The Lazys stint in Canada last month saw them make a hell of a lot of noise in a short amount of time … from touring with Montreal mates Grimskunk, to performing 3 blistering sets in 23 hours (including a set with You Am I at the Aussie BBQ in the legendary Horse Shoe Tavern). By the time the band took the stage for their last CMW show at the Bovine Sex Club, the line was down the street and over 100 punters were turned away. This show was undeniably one of the most talked about sets at CMW 2014.
Ralph James, President of leading booking agency The Agency Group, was there for the bands CMW shows and was so impressed, he signed The Lazys to his roster immediately. “Not often at a music conference like Canadian Music Week does a band make an impression like The Lazys did in Toronto this year. Before I arrived at their noon hour set, I had received a dozen tips about their 3 am show – but they were even better than the hype I had received – they ended up playing 3 shows in under 24 hours, so I’m not sure how they got their name!”
Also witnessing the band in full flight was Larry Wanagas of Bumstead Productions (Tim Chaisson / The Trews). The former manager of k.d. lang says, “The Lazys are the best new band that I've seen in years. They had a "seen it all before" Toronto audience completely captivated and buzzing.” Larry has now signed a co-management deal (with Geoff Trio of Code One) and will represent the band outside of Australia/NZ.
The suitably chuffed Lazys’ frontman Leon Harrison said “Words can’t really describe the recent tour we did of Canada. The reception we received over these four shows was incredible. The respect Canadian people have for rock n roll and the admiration they had for us will always be endeared. As word spread around town of The Lazys, our gigs were attended by many of the industry’s heavy weights including Garth Richardson who produced both Rage Against The Machine’s and Red Hot Chilli Peppers’ first records. Colin MacDonald of The Trews got up and performed with the band. Kevin Lyman, promoter of The Vans Warped Tour, tweeted some love and Ian D’Sa from Billy Talent had us over his place for a few cold beers after the show. Some sources even claimed, with our 24 hours of power, we secured the title of CMW Buzz band for 2014.
The response and generosity of these people was unbelievable for the 5 of us who are used to beers at the local bowling club on the Central Coast NSW. CMW was truly life changing and something we will always remember and cherish no matter how many times we continue to tour Canada/ North America.”
Back on home turf, there’s no time to laze about as management are negotiating over seas label deals. Matty Lazy has since signed endorsement deals with Gibson and Ernie Ball and the band is now gearing up for a bunch of Oz shows to coincide the release of their new album in September, and a US/Canadian tour in October.
