Bio
Originally from West Virginia, Scott made his way west to Seattle in 1995 and performs throughout the region. He started his musical career with a beater guitar at age 14 and just kept playing. Focusing his energy on classical guitar for several years in college and afterwards, it was in 2000 that he ventured into songwriting, writing material to play with friends (now the Scott Walter Band). Influenced by artists such as Billy Bragg, Steve Earle, and The Barenaked Ladies, he pays attention to both melody and lyrics creating memorable songs with real meaning in the words. "I’ll write about whatever comes to mind. Silly, profound, fun, melancholy. If it speaks to me, I’ll try and make it a song. And hopefully it will speak to the listener."
Solo or with the Scott Walter Band, Scott’s strong clear vocals take his tunes from straightforward rock, to simple pop, to honest melancholy twang in a major key for a dynamic live performance.
----------------------------------------------------------
The Scott Walter Band formed in 2001 (originally as Flat Margaret) playing in a Ballard basement. Now the 5 man outfit is a tight acoustic rock band playing clubs throughout Seattle. With a set that includes 3 chord pop, acoustic guitar/mandolin ballads, honky tonk, and groove rock, they play to entertain.
Scott's lyrics and melodies are strongly influenced by Billy Bragg and the Barenaked Ladies. And the influences of the band members (including the Grateful Dead, Cake, Rush, Jack Johnson, U2, and the Blues) are apparent in their arrangements of Scott's songs. Behind his vocals and percussive acoustic guitar are Randy Reichenbach's masterful grooves on guitar and mandolin, and harmonica riffs. Andrew Rose adds rocking electric guitar solos and colorful conga beats. At the core is the dynamic and nuanced playing of Bob Congleton on bass guitar and Mark Walters on drums and backing vocals. The long friendship among the members is obvious in their creative and rocking shows.
