Bio

Samuel Cole, born in Tasmania and raised in the New Zealand hinterland has been writing and performing music all his life. With a deep connection to the music of Dave Matthews’ Band, Crowded House and Paul Dempsey, Cole has tapped a story telling vein and evolved a style that is unmistakably his own. With ‘The Mornings’ (bass, drums, keys and violin) accompanying him on his flights of fancy, the light and shade of him performances are given colour and shape.

Samuel Cole and the Mornings have toured New Zealand, Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide several times with regular shows at the Espy Front Bar (Melb), San Francisco Bath House (Welli) and the Vanguard (Syd). Featured at the Falls Festival 2008, St Kilda Festival 2009 and having supported Borne, Paul Dempsey and Paul Kelly, this band is carving an identity into the Australian music land-scape.

With powerful, honest and evocative Cole’s lyrical style unfailingly hooks the audience and compels attention. Cole’s unique flair on guitar accompanies his often gruff and powerful vocals with a unique rhythmic cadence borrowed from islander, Baltic and traditional folk origins and a little something you can't quite put your finger on.

With their first EP in hand SC&TM launched in Hobart and Melbourne in September 2010 with sold out seated theatre shows. The journeys and emotions captivated the audiences and received standing ovations, and it made girls cry.

Returning to the East Coast in summer 2010/2011 Sam Cole and the Mornings are the tree that falls in a forest, only now there are people to hear it.
