"Small Town Diversity"

FLAGSTAFF, AZ
The small town Pride Festival with the big town feel will celebrate a milestone this year. Pride in the Pines celebrates its tenth anniversary June 10 in Wheeler Park. This year's theme is "A Decade of Pride: Celebrating Diversity!"
In honor of its decennial, the Northern Arizona Pride Association has gathered a high-caliber entertainment lineup. On the main stage, music legends Chaka Khan and Sophie B. Hawkins will headline. It also is bringing in Tony Moran and Joe Bermudez to spin dance hits for the official pre- and after-parties.
Despite such monumental talent befitting Gotham, Pride in the Pines retains its Mayberry heart. That heart is one of its biggest charms, says Managing Director David Fiss.
"It's like a living room Pride," said Fiss.
Fiss explains that with the mountains, pine trees and fresh air, people from all over the state flock to Flagstaff for Pride in the Pines. He said that many people come because it's like a retreat.
For people who live in 100-degrree heat, it's a chance to get to the high country. And for Flagstaff residents, it's a chance to see old friends and meet new ones.
In addition to listening to the big acts, attendees can sit in the grass in front of the main stage and listen to popular acts like Patricia Silverberg, Tina Angotti, Allyson Jay, Shirley's Temple and the ever-popular Phoenix Phollies, featuring Barbra Seville. For something a little more mind-bending, the progressive stage showcases poetry, music and dramatizations by local and regional talents.

"Review of Patricia Silverberg's Simple as it Seems"

A Raw and an Intelligent Album
author: Chris

I stumbled upon Patricia Silverberg while looking on amazon.com and saw her name in a tag. I decided to do a bit of research and found her myspace and her cd on CDBaby.

After my first listen, I felt melancholy. I wasn't sure if that is how she wanted the listener to feel, or what. I listened to it again and it grew on me.

Some favorite songs are Honest Grace and As Simple as it Seems (the title track), which by no means is simple - it is constructed with a complexity to make the listener think with the chords.

She has a very unique and beautiful voice - definitely one of a kind, not trying to compare her to nobody else because I can't.

She does a good job with the two Natalie Merchant covers, "Beloved Wife" and "My Skin" - as a big Natalie Merchant fan, I think her voice and her music would have suited her fare better with excerpts from the Motherland album as it suits Patricia's style of singing and guitar playing.

This is a CD I would recommend to other folkies who are looking for a grittier feel on acoustic music with thought-provoking lyrics.

Good job! - CD Baby
