Bio

Michael began songwriting as a journey into his own heart and soul while trying to understand the hearts of others around him. His introspective lyrics express a sensitive look at the unfolding of life’s experiences and challenges with a tongue and cheek sense of humor and hope. Michael is a natural storyteller and his songs are rooted in passionate themes that envelop the listener into the bittersweet twists and turns of his characters. His motivation has always been to share a story or idea that evokes emotion with a shining and unique perspective.

His musical style is an eclectic mix of rock, folk, and world fusion through the use of acoustic guitar, keyboard, world instruments, and often ambient textures. His sound is a mixture of organic and synthetic sound representing the balance of what can be touched and what needs to be.
Michael's early years were influenced by the freedom, rawness, and innovation of Public Enemy and hip-hop artists of the late 80’s.. He has been significantly impacted by the passionate storytelling of Bruce Springsteen, the honesty of raw emotion and theme of John Lennon, and the blend of world and traditional musical styling of Peter Gabriel.

Michael grew up with a love for music. His grandfather a practicing violinist taught him an appreciation for classical music. Although there were many stops and starts in Michael’s focus on music, it was never far from his heart and dreams.

After his grandfather passed away, Michael purchased a keyboard in his grandfather’s honor and soon began to write lyrics. Michael often uses the keyboard as a starting point when composing a new song. His musical passion has lead him to the guitar both acoustic and electric which uses in performance.

Michael has lived most of his life in the New York Metropolitan area with a five-year edge-rounding stay in San Francisco. He fondly remembers his time on the West Coast as a period of personal re-birth and growth.

He has most recently been selected as a "Runner Up" in the September 2006 round of the Song of the Year song and lyric competition for his written work of ‘I Ran Through’.
