A review of the album, Boy & The Bird - Rock Freaks
But this isn't about Merykid's dedication to San Antonio - it's about his unique brand of sound. He's releasing his sophomore EP, "Boy & The Bird" - a big step from his original release; "I felt that I could push the boundaries a little more with my writing, so for the B&TB, I recruited a string section, a drummer, and a producer who could really incorporate a sonic landscape into my folk-driven music." And it's no surprise - Merykid credits San Anton for his influence: "I feel as though San Antonio has an edge in original music… Being so close to Austin, the nationally recognized music capital, there is a sub-culture of creative, interesting music that isn’t being written anywhere else." - www.penseyeview.com
... Streets is a triumph. It takes a few listens to sink in, but the record makes R&B sound like it’s inhabiting Mery’s world and not the other way around. But also, Streets marks Mery’s fourth genre shift in as many years. He may not yet be the relentless genius his artistic output implies, but it’s clear Mery has no plans to slow down. - Stomping Grounds

...Gentleman Streets has more of an electronic feel and the other, The Blue Dog EP, showcases his folk side. Nick answered a few questions about his musical influences, why he decided to put out two albums at once, and he was quick to answer who he’d want to collaborate with. - A Teen View
...Merykid’s The Raccoon is a very interesting, engaging piece of work that demands to be considered as a whole unit. If you’re willing to give it the attention it asks for and requires, you’ll find some unique and interesting moments within. It’s definitely a successful album, but I feel that the best is still yet to come from Merykid. - Independent Clauses
