There was standing room only in the Listening Room at Cummins Station.
On Thursday, Jan. 29, Lindsay George celebrated the release of her new CD Living Inside-Out!

Inside the Listening Room, Lindsay had an entourage of support from family, friends, and colleagues and from some of the most seasoned Players Music City has to offer. As the band played, even perfect strangers came in for a listen: "She sounds really nice," says one. "I heard her at the Belcourt and was just blown away," offers a fan of Lindsay.

Lindsay addressed her crowd and segued to No Surprise, "it's on my new album" she informs her listening audience. "This is one I am most fond of..." And she invites her listeners to the time, the day, and the company she keeps: "It's 10:30 on a Thursday summer night... But I still love you... it's No Surprise." You'll have to hear it to know what No Surprise is all about. Really, it's No Surprise.

With Sade flair and a Jiosa groove, "Don't Wanna Give Up On You" is groovy and beckons you to dance in the middle of your living room or at the local Bistro.

"If they asked me, I Could Write a Book" will be Swingin' inside Sentimental Sundays! Whether you like to Bop, Trot, Swing or Step, this tune will surely, at the very least, get you to tappin' your pencil on your desk, then swing around in your chair, bring you to your feet and invite you to move about as if you were Gregory Hines or Fred Astaire themselves. The rhythm in "I Could Write a Book" moves about the way you want a jazz piece to move. You'll play this tune over and over to find the syncopated rhythm and movement to the articulation of each piece.

"Lindsay started college early, graduating from high school in just three years. She was accepted into the very competitive Belmont University's School of Music on a full academic scholarship and is currently finishing her junior year. Lindsay's major is Commercial Voice and Composition," says Chip Kay, her PR manager who is simply in awe of such young talent. "After all," Chip says, "She is only 20 years old."

For Vocal coach Ron Browning, Lindsay has an undying appreciation and says "Ron helped me to meet my challenges and helped me to find vocal abilities in [her instrument] I ever knew I had or could accomplish...He helped me to find my safest place and helped me to examine my vocal issues..."

Jazz radio promoter and producer Michael Moryc "is just a jazzy guy who knows everything, he knew how to communicate jazz to me, the hardest genre I've ever had to sing," Lindsay admits. Michael Moryc introduced Lindsay to Grammy-nominated jazz guitarist Denny Jiosa. The two came together to collaborate on the songs have proven to be a winning team since.

Having adoration for many artists, Lindsay is partial to Ella Fitzgerald; perhaps this explains the soul that rides inside her performance. One of her favorite songs is, "My One and Only Love" (John Coltrane and Johnny Hartman). This explains the direction in her lyrics. The tracks on Living Inside-Out are promising; keeping love at heart, having faith on what love is and what it could become. She explores a factual emotion: that relationships can be sustained having one alone or two together. This is what sustains Sentimental Sundays!

Inside Sentimental Sundays w/ Tory many selections from Living Inside-Out will ride nicely alongside Flora Purim and makes a fabulous work of vocal art and design. The melodies, reminding us of Michael Franks, will put you in an 'island frame of mind." In "Run Away with You," as Michael Franks often speaks of, Lindsay says, "Let's go away...to an island...spend our dream, take my hand and see..."


Lindsay gave an expressive performance to introduce Living Inside-Out! Her graceful vocals, and musical phrasing and the baubles that dressed her shimmy dress were all entertaining. The lyrical message was secured within each song's message. She sings with her eyes! Her POPPIN' EYES! And who says you can't judge a book by its cover?
