Bio

“The songs on this album point to a need to look for glimpses of glory in the world. Whether it’s in the broken places or the joy-filled places, God is there,” Jenny says.

Jenny Youngman’s music comes from a place of honest vulnerability and heartfelt thoughtfulness. Organic and inspirational, Jenny’s music is all about transformation and the amazing God who orchestrates it.

Playing the piano since she was three years old, Jenny is no stranger to music and ministry. She’s logged innumerable hours singing in and leading church choirs. She’s worked in youth ministry for ten years, editing and writing youth curriculum for six of those.

“I always thought I would be a music educator, but I changed my major halfway through college. When my husband, Mark, and I went to seminary, we didn’t take our piano to our third-floor Chicago apartment. We were youth pastors at a church that used mostly organ music. So I basically lived three years without music,” Jenny says.

Jenny couldn’t wait to get back to her piano and her music. After moving to Nashville to take an editorial position at a Christian publishing house, she was ready to move out from behind her computer desk onto her piano bench. Jenny realized her work as an editor and writer had sharpened not only her writing skills but also her radar for God’s leading.

“I started paying attention to what God was working up in me. It didn’t take long for the songs to bubble up and for me to get reacquainted with my piano. Three years into thinking about writing songs, I’m now singing them for others,” Jenny says.

Jenny’s music is hope for a hurting world. It’s a glimpse of glory in the middle of the daily grind. It’s a call to follow Jesus—which means loving your neighbor as yourself.

“It’s hard to live as Jesus calls us to do,” Jenny admits. “But we have to learn to walk in the shoes of others and see the world through their eyes. We must choose to show compassion instead of judgment, kindness instead of intolerance, and love instead of hatred. That’s the kingdom coming.”

Married to a full-time minister and a mother of two, Jenny is quite familiar with the demands of balancing ministry, marriage, motherhood, and mission. She understands that others are struggling with all sorts of hurts and trying to make sense of it all.

In 2006, Jenny’s brother, Jeff, and his family moved to Nashville to be part of this ministry. Jeff sings with Jenny on most of the songs and “adds such depth to the music,” Jenny says.

“My prayer is that these songs give people hope and help them sense a ‘glimpse of glory’ when they feel the weight of the everyday world.”
