"I saw the soul of the man as he performed in front of friends, family and people off the street. He had us laugh often, brought us to tears (3 times) as he told us stories about his family, aboriginal people he had met, at risk youth he had worked with, and much more. I love how he plays his guitar and harmonica but mostly it was about his story telling and a glimpse into his soul as he performed his own material. A remarkable experience." - Mike Bradford
"Herky Cutler played at Gravity last Friday night. His set was very high energy and professional. A one man band with a full band sound. He played some originals and some old rock favorites. All the guests expressed how happy they were to be there! Could recommend his show for any family friendly venue or bar. He has stories to go with his songs and just an all around fun and engaging show! Look forward to seeing him again soon." - Dakota - Gravity Espresso & Wine Bar, Calgary, AB

"The night, full of exuberant fans thirsty for the musical bliss that is Herky Cutler's art, were pleasantly surprised as he impressed and bedazzled the percussion wielding audience. He played songs like The Weight by The Band and Brown Eyed Girl by Van Morrison with amazing energy and enthusiasm. Let us not also forget his backing band consisting of the opening musicians for that night and the sound guy, taking residence at the side table and performing what could be regarded as the quintessential cowbell solo in the history of The Mandolin Cafe. We thank Herky for coming and playing and hopes that he comes back soon!" - Thene Singleton - Mandolin Cafe - Tacoma, WA

His Contemporary Hippie Folk Rock music will certainly entertain and impress you. This technique fills the lounge with excited guests who are overjoyed to have the opportunity to hear him play." - Andy - GM, Fionn MacCool’s Cross Iron Mills

“Thanks so much for performing at my backyard birthday party. You were awesome! It still amazes me how one man puts out such a full sound…its like having a small band without taking up all the space. In
addition, you seem to have perfected the ability to read your audience, from playing as background music to getting full participation creating an impromptu band. Everyone, even our neighbours who sat in the park behind our place, was entertained. Many asked me to pass on how impressed they were with your talent.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!”

Herky, from the start, adds to the room, or in this case the backyard. From set up to clean up the energy is there. When the music starts I cannot help but tap my toes. Bio
I live in beautiful High River, Alberta, with my lovely and incredibly gifted wife, Riesah...
My music has many faces; rock, blues, country, folk, Celtic, latin, and speaks with many tongues about who I am, what I believe in, and what makes me laugh.
I've been influenced by artists like Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Bruce Cockburn, Eric Clapton, Tom Petty, Bonnie Raitt, and MANY of the independent artists that I have heard over the years. They inspire me and keep the songwriting candle burning.
What sets me apart from other singer/songwriters/performers I think is my ability to engage the audience. To me, it's all about the audience. If they're not having a good time, what's the point? Otherwise, I might as well just be home playing in my studio. They provide me with energy and a reason to perform.
When I'm playing a gig, my purpose is to touch the audience in some way, to inspire them, to make them laugh, and to make them feel like they've had a great time! One of the ways I do that is to bring along a variety of percussion instruments and invite the audience to be my "back up" band.
It never ceases to amaze me how much everyone, young and old alike, enjoy doing that and becoming a real part of the music experience. It must be working because I've noticed other artists that have seen me do this, are now copying me.
Another way I use to engage the audience is to let them make requests. I have an extensive repertoire of songs they can peruse and choose from. I especially love it when they choose a song I haven't played in a while because it challenges me to do a good job for them...
Would love to see you at one of my shows...
