"This Little Underground- The Beat"

“The rising young indie-folk band has already demonstrated evolution since forming in late spring. They've finessed their sonic dimensions as a group and, despite their youth, now radiate a mature restraint in their playing, particularly in Green's patient, elegant singing, which affects without affectation. If this improved mindfulness of proportion is an indicator, their upcoming debut album will be one to watch.” - Orlando Weekly

"Listen: "Strange Death""

Great Deceivers tell folk tales roughed up and driven by garage rock that are also, occasionally, wrapped in the embrace of shoegaze and enlivened by the dynamic ranges of jazz. - Mixtape Muse

"Both Sides Now"

"The disparate influences of those three songwriters span ’90s alternative, early hardcore, indie-pop, metal and more – this is perhaps the only band for miles around that emphatically cite both Kurt Ballou of Converge and Elliott Smith as sonic cornerstones – but the sound that the Great Deceivers produce manages to transcend easy categorization. With complex arrangements providing the foundation for melodies that are both breezy and weary, there’s a thoughtfulness to the band’s pop songs that makes them simultaneously easy to digest and fun to chew on." - Orlando Weekly

"It's Got Soul"

GREAT DECEIVERS makes moody rock n' roll with simple, yet dense instrumentation. Fans of later Elliott Smith will be pleased. - junglerot.blogspot.com

Bio

Great Deceivers, a four-piece outfit from Orlando, FL put out their first record to sparse but very positive critical acclaim in July of 2010. After a handful of line-up changes and a desire to make a stronger statement with their music, they returned from a Southeastern tour with intentions of writing what would become their first 'real' album as a democratic collaboration.

They found themselves at North Avenue Studios in Orange City, FL less than eight months later ready to put to tape what had become the seeds of their sophomore release: the long hours of writing and re-writing, construction and deconstruction they happily endured in challenging themselves to put their best foot forward.

The band is currently preparing to embark on a two-week tour culminating the release of this second record, Seasons In Reverse, in their hometown of Orlando.

Their second record, available for purchase starting on August 1st, is a much more focused and deeply-rooted effort than the band's initial release. Collaboration in songwriting and attempts to break new personal ground were at the forefront of intentions during the rigorous writing and recording sessions of the album. Upon listening, this focus and attention to detail yields a surefooted sense of maturity too-fleetingly glimpsed on 2010's 'House of Stairs.' Challenging themselves to look beyond preconceived notions of accepted form and function of musical parts the band is very excited to present the fruit of their labor in the form of this 9-song odyssey into self-reflection, frustration, frenzied fear and the insatiable desire to grow and progress. 'Seasons In Reverse' pulls the listener into a realm of harmony, lyrical wit, confused passion and understated melody related in a wide range of musical dynamic.

Great Deceivers is Josh Dulcie (drums, percussion), Max Green (guitar, vocals), Tre Hester (guitar, vocals), and Ben Rudolph (bass, vocals). They have lent local support to notable acts like Deer Tick, Low, Bear Hands, Vetiver, Unwed Sailor, Sybris, Surferblood, The Ruby Suns, Flowers Forever, Tilly and the Wall, Neva Dinova, Viernes, Larkin Grimm, and Tim Easton.
