"World Class Jazz"

FRANK UNZUETAThoughts RevealedSunstone Records
Southern California-based jazz pianist/composer Frank Unzueta debuts a most impressive project, THOUGHTS REVEALED, and I absolutely love it. It’s the ticket to Worldwide acclaim for a musician who is already well known and revered in the So Cal music scene. Mr. Unzueta’s primary influences are Bill Evans, Chick Corea, and Oscar Peterson. You can’t do better than that! Inspiration is one thing… then add his own talent and creativity and that’s what delivers the quality, and believe me, Frank Unzueta’s compositions and playing are the epitome of quality. With Larry Steen on bass, Gordon Peeke on drums, and Eric Marienthal on sax, amplified by the production acumen of Rafa Sardina, THOUGHTS REVEALED is World-class jazz personified. This one found its way into my iTunes directly after my first listen. Someday a young pianist will include Frank Unzueta’s name to their list of major jazz influences. Yes, he’s that good! ~SCOTT O'BRIEN

"Frank Unzueta's new jazz trio"

Having experienced Frank Unzueta's band One World with it's World Jazz and Latin sound, and his singing and guitar playing, I was quite amazed to see him playing jazz piano with his trio! He was quite at home playing his terrific original compositions as well as original arrangements of other material.
Frank has a very lyrical style, almost classical in his approach with great attention payed to form and development. With Larry Steen on bass and Gordon Peeke on drums, the band was completely focused on their music and each other. I caught them at Alva's Concert space in San Pedro, CA, a great venue that really showcased the trio beautifully. My favorites were Love Me When Winter Comes, a very brooding and introspective ballad, Elisa's Dream, dedicated to Frank's mother and a great composition, Happy Toes Rag, and the radio ready The Me You Created.
Frank is a multi faceted musician, and his new trio will definitely make quite an impression on any jazz lover. - Jonathan Widran

"Frank Unzueta Trio Shines"

Frank Unzueta's music is very personal. As he said during his introduction before the tune The Me You Created, "this next tune comes from my personal experience with relationships and perhaps it will remind many of you of some of your past relationships". He plays with a very personal style, reflecting some of his early jazz influences like Bill Evans and Chick Corea, and from his studies with classical music. His trio communicates with each other beautifully and the music reflects that. Anything For You is hauntingly beautiful, Love Me When Winter Comes took me to places far away, and Elisa's Dream was truly innovative in its arrangement and vision. Their album will be out soon. It will be a must add to any jazz collection. - LA Weekly

Bio

Frank Unzueta's longtime dream of forming his own trio to perform his jazz compositions finally came into fruition with the release of their first album Thoughts Revealed. From the hauntingly beautiful ballad "The Me You Created", to the Scott Joplin influenced "Happy Toes Rag", and the Latin rhythms of "Elisa's Dream", the music of Frank Unzueta is definitely a "new sound in jazz', as Unzueta describes his sound.

Frank Unzueta's compositions reflect his jazz influences such as Bill Evans, Chick Corea, and Oscar Peterson, as well as his classical studies.
The personnel on the album are Frank Unzueta on piano, Larry Steen on bass, and Gordon Peeke on drums. Two of the tracks, "Madrid", dedicated to Frank Unzueta's grandmother Natividad Madrid Almeida, and "Love Me When Winter Comes", feature the soprano saxophone of Eric Marienthal.
"My jazz compositions are a departure from the standard head/solos/head and out form of most jazz projects", adds Unzueta. "I develop my melodies and form and add more depth to the jazz formula". The pianist also knew he would need players who shared his vision of jazz compositional development. Says Unzueta, "I had known Gordon for quite awhile and always loved his playing. I shared my dream of forming a trio with him and he was on board immediately. I also had been playing with Larry and Eric over the years, two great musicians on the L.A. jazz scene who I knew would complete the vision I had for Thoughts Revealed".
The bottom line is Frank Unzueta wants his music to reach deep inside his audience, "down to their very soul". His new album does just that!
