Feeling a bit camera shy
Bio
Multi-instrumentalist Joe Cang, began playing at an early age with
various bands including South Africa's Dudu Pukwana, Jabula and Jazz
saxophonist Don Weller. At the age of eighteen he enjoyed succsess as the
bass player with pop act, Scritti Politti who were at that time signed to
the legendary Rough Trade label.
At the same time he wrote and recorded with the Ghanain master drummer
Reebop Kwaku Baah (ex-Traffic) , "An important experience"
which helped develop his writing and production skills. After Baah's
untimely death he enjoyed a year of touring with Ian Dury, Desmond Dekker
and Kintone.
Touring was a great experience but despite this, Joe's main interest
remained in writing and recording. "Navigator", his solo album was released
on Arista Records to much critical acclaim and this brought about
further writing collaborations as diverse as Hall & Oates, Hugh Masekela and
Aswad, with whom Joe wrote four tracks for their platinum album "Rise &
Shine" including the massive hit 'Shine'. He also co-wriote and
produced 6 tracks on their last album.
Joe has recently written and produced tracks for Steel Pulse’s forthcoming American album, whilst continuing to collaborate with various new
artists on both sides of the Atlantic ,he also co-wrote on the Hall & Oates album
