Divine was just recently featured on NYC's own e-zine 'Birthplace Magazine'. - Magnetic Management
Divine's latest independent album, "The Legacy Lives", will take the Hip-Hop/Rap genre to new musical and lyrical heights at a time when it is most needed and craved. This is strongly displayed and exercised on the album's "controversial" first single, "King Of New York" b/w "My Saga", "Gangsta", and the bonus cut "Grind Out". The lead single "King Of New York" brings you right into the most asked and controversial question amongst all East coast emcees, rappers and Hip-Hop/Rap fans alike, and beyond..."Who's the king of New York???" Everyone has their own opinion and a different answer, but Divine undoubtedly displays why his name will soon be one of them that's most evoked. With "My Saga", he goes deep and very personally into his life, and emotionally articulates and details his trials, tribulations, and struggles. With "Gangsta" and "Grind Out" he shows his diversity, by effortlessly going from a hard street record that could rival any West coast so-called "gangsta rap", to a strong club banger that would get anyone rushing the dance floor. Divine continues to insist and reiterate that: " [His] style is no more than knowledge, wisdom, and understanding on all aspects, degrees, and sciences of life, according to [his] personal existence and experiences to manifest..." Without question, there's no doubt that Divine Allah's poised to becoming a living legacy! - Magnetic Management

COLLEGE RADIO DJ FEEDBACK
12" Promo Record (Single): DIVINE ALLAH -"KING OF NEW YORK"
Love this joint ("King Of New York"). Old school feel, dope beat. In heavy roatation.
Chilly C -KHDX
("King Of New York") This is HOT!!! For real, I wasn't expecting much because of the hyped of cover and shit. The track is outstanding, Divine Allah is cool...but the track makes up. FIRE!!! "My Saga" is another really dope track, I just wish Divine Allah had more of a personality to match the tracks.
The CEO -WESE/Sirius/AOL Radio
I like this joint ("King Of New York"), need to change the record cover (ha, ha, ha, ha) but it's still good. Looking at it I was suspect but he shows and proves. Good music, real good music.
Chill Will -WCBN
Very hot! He's got some very tight production behind him and delivers on all accounts.
Max -WMHB
Good all the way through...
Chilly C -KHDX
I'm giving this one a few spins here and there...not totally into it, but it's good.
Milena -KCSU
First time hearing this cat and I really like the vibe, something new and fresh for this stale ass game.
Anilast -KSMT
"My Saga" is definitely the choice cut here. A great debut artist on 91.1. Looking forward to hearing the album...thank him for the drop too!
DJ Imperial -KSMU
Decent first effort. "Gangsta" is my favortie jam.
J-Tyme -KMIH
Like it, don't love it.
Kevvy Kev -KZSU
This joint is cool - slow progress - I'll wait for more feedback from listeners - 1 out of 10, I give it a 6.
Buddhabong -TIR Radio
Just wanted to tell you I'm feeling the Divine Allah (record) a lot. "King Of New York" is my jam...hot sample.
Pete Butta -WKPS 5/10
You know I'm repping the Divine Allah joint cuz! Especially "Gangsta"!
Stage One -KMOJ
This one has gotten spins on the show every week for about the past two months. I'm equally feeling "King Of New York" and "Gangsta", and rotate between the two of them. I'm feeling Divine's flow and wordplay, but digging the production too. Looking forward to the next single.
Jason D -KHDC & Radio Boise
Shit is hot...short but hot!
Ahk -WEAA
This guy may only be known in certain circles...but he brings some powerful music...this grew on me. Good beats and lyrics.
Enigma -WXCI
I think this is decent, not my favorite, but not something I turn off if I hear it.
Garbs -WRUW
I like this joint. The baseline was aight, but just didn't seem to fit
with the high pitched hook. Overall a solid joint that got spins. The
vocals (lyrics) were solid.
DJ Ev -WUAG
Pretty solid single all around..."King of New York" is the top choice on the record, nice vocal sample and pulsating tempo make this one an easy winner. The B-Side "Gangsta" is also on point with another solid beat and more staunch lyricism...this record is too nice to front on.
Shareef -WRFL
This was a decent track, liked the production, and lyrically wasn't bad either. I look to hear more from
Divine.
Ad Lib -WKDU
Illll, I've been constantly supporting this track on the radio and the charts!
Tony -CFUV
Not bad, not incredible. We are playing it every week but no calls on it or anything.
Mike -KXLU
Wack beat, good lyrics.
Bro Rabb -KXLU
The sped up chipmunk vocal is so done. However, that said, the rest of the beat is nice, and the rhymes are quite good.
DL -KTRU
Real dope record...like the sample a lot...rapping is marginal, but
overall it's a nice little cut...medium rotation..."Grind Out" is dope too.
A Wade -WMSE
Been dropping this on my XM Radio show...beat hits hard!
DJ Scene -KEXP/XM
This joint ("King Of New York") is pretty hot. I like what they did with that production. This Divine dude has a smooth flow. The other track on here that's getting heavy spins is "Grind Out". 8th Wundah is a slept-on producer. Overall 3.5 outta 5.
Doc Evil -WRKC
Record went over heavy (in a good way) over the last few months. I know that some people were about the gully cuts on the B-Side, but I actually didn't mind dropping the "Newsies" sample from "King of New York"; ironically, Dipset had a joint recent with a poorer use of the sample, so that was a great opportunity to flip the Divine cut and edutain the masses...
Enygma -WBRS
Ok joint here...the lyrics are straight, I'm just not as receptive to the production...I feel "My Saga" is a little more suited to my taste...good effort, I'd definately like to hear more from D. A. (Divine Allah)...
DJ Resident -WKNC
The Divine record ("King Of New York") is real dope, playing it pretty much every week, very tight record.
DJ Flash -CJIQ
What can you say (about "King Of New York"), a cheery start followed by a dark thunderous tension builder of a beat. Crazy! Divine Allah builds as the beat does, tearing it up lyrically. I keep waiting for Divine Allah to bust through some wall super hero status, c - Magnetic Management

“The God is back,” Divine confidently states on “I’m Back,” one of his new songs forcefully capturing ears for its gritty and introspective lyrics over a smooth beat that drips hip-hop with every kick and snare. When listening to the track, fans can’t help but hear Divine’s confidence throughout the song. And why shouldn’t he be confident? After stints in jail, working with Rakim and taking time to map out his moves in the ever-changing landscape of the rap game, Divine has weathered the storms and is still standing strong. Check out our exclusive interview with the Brooklynite as he discusses his upcoming album Ghetto Rhymin’, working with legendary producers, what he learned from Ra and much more.
Your new album Ghetto Rhyming is dropping this summer. How’s it sounding right now?
It’s sounding real crazy. The album is in the last stages of post-production and mastering, which is being done over in Germany by Broadway Mastering. We’re trying to drop the album in July. It should be ready to go. Tentatively sometime in July it’s officially going to be in the marketplace, the latest August. But this release is actually the pre-release street version of the album and then we actually dropping the official album.
This is your biggest release to date. Are you ready?
Oh yeah, indeed. For those that don’t know, I had released a promo single back in 2005 entitled, “King Of New York” and it received great reviews. It was on college radio and peaked at #2 nationwide, so a lot of people do know me from that. But now, this album is what’s popping off. Again this album is the pre-release street version of the actual album. The actual album will have industry producers such as Nick Wiz and Domingo, and we trying to secure Ayatollah and Coptic as well. These producers all have a history in the industry and that’s going to be for the official Ghetto Rhymin’ album. But what we releasing initially is the pre-release street version of the album.
When you do a pre-release street album, how do you balance giving fans high quality music but still knowing that you’re holding back the best?
Releasing a pre-release street album initially came out of me having personal setbacks and the album being held back for so long, yet the material still being so strong. So the label decided to use it as a market introduction of Divine to build the anticipation and momentum for the release of the actual album which will be another stronger body of work. It’s also because I’ve been working for a long time. I’ve been working on my music for a while so I have a lot of material in the archives. There’s a lot of music that’s been done and recorded and is in the post-production stage. At the same time, I keep quality. It’s always high quality from Divine and people know that. As the new stuff comes, it’s going to get better and when you get the pre-release album and the official album, you’ll be pleased with them altogether. You’re going to hear a lot of progression and a lot of different stylization as far as my skills are concerned. It’s going to be a quick progression simply because I’m constantly working but not always releasing my material right away. I go in the studio and I stay in the lab working, man. I just stock pile joints and take my time with everything, but it’s always high quality regardless.
When you talk about progression, how have you grown since “King Of New York” and our last interview?
I think the progression and growth is more about the time and influences, what’s going on in society and what’s going on in the bigger culture of hip-hop today, as well as the particular music zone I was in at that particular time. The things I’m talking about on the street album are what were going on a few years ago, but it still applies to what’s popping off today in this day and time. My album and music is timeless, man, it’s not time dated or era based in the sense of what’s what in worldly pop culture, but I still keep it relative to the day and time we’re in. I talk about universal things and something that’s going to always apply no matter when and where it is because I have mostly conscious lyrics and spiritual content and I try not to get too caught up on the latest cars that are out or the latest dance that’s out or whatever it is in the culture of hip-hop and the pop culture of the world that’s going on. I try to stay alert and not stray too far from the focus of my message and dropping my jewels. Regardless, I put a real good balance on it overall so I got something that everybody can relate to and get somethi - Magnetic Management

Bio
Divine represents and hails from Brooklyn, New York City and Fort Greene, Brooklyn by way of Rhode Island (coincidentally, Fort Greene is named after American Revolutionary War General Nathanael Greene of Rhode Island). He was born and raised in Newport, Rhode Island (renowned as the "Mecca of the Jazz [music] world") for most of his early life and teenage years (which explains his strong affinity to Jazz music, although he didn't actually grow up on it - he credits the music of all the Jazz greats that played the Newport Jazz Festivals while he was still in his mother's womb and a small child, knowing now that those sound vibrations still reached his ears and sank into his sub-conscious), and he also lived in Rhode Island's capital city Providence (which literally means "Divine Guidance") as a young kid. Always highly intelligent and mature beyond his age, Divine began traveling regularly outside of Rhode Island in his early teens to New York City, and Philadelphia, observing and absorbing the different styles and distinct cultures of these two cities. Highly spiritual and charismatic, Divine grew up listening mostly to East coast (New York) Hip-Hop from the "Golden Era" (1986-1989), this, and his spiritual ideology/theology (he's a so-called "Five Percenter") is the influential foundation of his musical/lyrical style and content, as well as his strong personal connection/relation to and affinity for New York City, particularly the borough of Brooklyn ("Medina").
Divine is heavily embedded in Hip-Hop music and has been writing, recording, and performing since the age of ten. His musical style and sound is reminiscent of the "Golden Era" (1986-1989) in Hip-Hop when the likes of Eric B. & Rakim, KRS-One, Slick Rick, and EPMD, etc. reigned. Divine captures and epitomizes the modernization and personification of the sound and vibe from that era in his entire persona, presence, lyrical and musical style, sound, and vibe; and brings back the originality, diversity, and lyrical complexity, which was once the cornerstone of Rap music. He counts Rakim, Kool G Rap, and KRS-One as some of his greatest influences, as well as a few other past and present artists. His poetics and style is most similar to and inspired by the legendary Rakim, with slight elements reminiscent of Nas, and the sound of his voice ranging between these two great artists; yet he still maintains his own originality and uniqueness. Nevertheless, this has brought him strong comparisons to both of these artists, and there is no doubt he will continue to be compared to them - especially and particularly Rakim, as Nas was. However, emphatically put, Divine is the only similarity between Rakim and Nas.
Divine's music is designed for the masses, but tailor-made especially for this present day Hip-Hop generation. With thought provoking lyricism, he combines a universal worldwide view and knowledge of self with social and political awareness, deep spiritual consciousness, cultural elements, personal life experiences, and raw urban realities, into a thick and superb style of story telling and rhyming. Growing up in the streets of the ghetto in poverty, with no parental guidance, is what gave Divine his social and political awareness, but not until he became a victim of the penal system did this awareness totally crystallize and deepen. While incarcerated, he received "knowledge of self" when he was introduced to and absorbed in the Nation Of Gods & Earths (formerly the Five Percent Nation Of Islam), and it's teachings. His incarceration was the catalyst that sparked, created, and shaped his spiritual and conscious persona and the positive essence of his poetics. With over ten albums (presently unreleased) to his catalog and over ten years experience in creating urban music, it can be reasoned he's not yet signed to a major label only because he was locked away. Divine presents the rarity of an artist with a complete package and star quality. His ghetto and street life savvy, and the seven plus years he's spent locked in Federal prison, gives him the real-life story and authenticity that most so-called hardcore Hip-Hop/Rap artists only claim to have lived.
Divine is a highly charismatic MC of great talent and artistry. His music and rhymes are not only clever, creative, and witty, but also very unpredictable and highly intellectual and intelligent. As an artist he's able to mix, blend, and balance his street knowledge and experience with his spiritually-conscious intellect, intelligence, and intuitiveness so well; he creates and gives himself an enigmatic and uncanny mystique and universal appeal, and leaves any listener with a sense of connection and/or understanding. Divine's lyrics are versatile and razor sharp, which enables him to cut through and penetrate the mind state of any listener regardless of their age or degree of consciousness.
