BASSETERRE, St. Kitts: LOCAL artiste Zemenfes Kidus along with his manager Crispin Boon in collaboration with Creation Inc. donated two amplifiers and two microphones each to the Tyrell Williams Primary School and the Verchilds High School earlier this morning March 11th.
Zemenfes said he hopes that the amplifiers and the microphones will help to enhance any social gathering that the school may have.
Vice Principal of Tyrell Williams, Clive Woodley thanked the artiste on behalf of the staff and students.
“We have been trying to get one for some time now so it will definitely be put to good use especially with the upcoming graduation.”
While at the Verchilds High school Franklyn Huggins, a third form student, gave his words of appreciation on behalf of the staff, students and V.H.S. Band.
The reggae singer said it felt good to be making this contribution as he is a former student of the Verchilds High School when it was known as the Verchilds’ All Age School.
Zemenfes has been singing and recording for many years and is one of the few persons to record at ‘Tuff Gong Studio’ during the life and times of its founder and owner Bob Marley. He was also the only artiste in the Eastern Caribbean to be proudly promoted on the Fifty-six Hope Road Label on a two year contract distributed by Tuff Gong Recording Company.
He has also performed in many regional islands and has been the opening act for many shows which featured artistes such as Lucky Dube, Bounty Killer, Terry Fabulous, Vybz Kartel, Buju Banton, Jimmy Cliff, Big Youth and Third World. According to his manager, Crispin Boon, said that this was the first donation they have ever made but certainly not the last. - SKNVibes.com

Singing Artist Zemenfes Kidus has just released his second album with its searching title - JUDGEMENT.
Described as an infectious album with positive, powerful lyrics, Judgement also features musicians whom Zemenfes described were the main force of Bob Marley and the Wailers such as drummer Carlton "Carly" Barette; bass Aston "Familyman" Barette; guitarist Dwight Pickney; keyboardist Earl "Wire" Lindo and Rita Marley''s cousin, Gladstone Anderson. The 11-track album reveals the versatility of the singing voice of this artist who has been singing since the age of nine in his school choir. Two of his favourites songs on the album are "Don''t give up" and "Show us favour"
Never one to believe in slack lyrics, Zemenfes takes his music seriously. "Music should educate, uplift and motivate listeners," he says. "My aim really is to help form an inspiration and passion in the listeners. To me, Music is life&music is food. If you give someone good food, it can only make them strong. So that is why I try to write positive songs and why my lyrics are always positive." His first album released in 2001 is entitled "Stand Firm and Be Strong".
Kittitians will feed proud of having this son of the soil in their midst. Kidus, who owns an Art. Gift and Music Store at the Robert Llewellyn Bradshaw International Airport, is eager to share his Art with locals and visitors alike.
Since 1984 when he released his first solo at the Bob Marley Tuff Gong Studio in Jamaica, he has been sharing the stage with such well-known singers as Jimmy Cliff, Lucky Dube, Third World, Buju Banton and Terror Fabulous. He also performed in the 2004 St. Kitts Music Festival.
His second album features Grace Richardson, Vincent "Stickle" Clarke and his son Richard "Shailoh" Dorset.
Zemenfes is presently promoting his album among the islands of the Leewards, including St. Martin and the US Virgin Islands, where he has performed. "It feels good to see yourself reaching the end of the tunnel of recording the album," he mused, "But it is not the end of the work. The work has just begun." - The Democrat

Selwyn Caines a.k.a. Zemenfes Kidus was exposed to the music scene at thirteen years of age when he first picked up a microphone. Then he started experimenting on the drums in the “Silvertones” Band-House. Eventually, they asked him to sing lead vocals for an event and he got his first chance to perform on stage. After that music was his passion. At eighteen Selwyn moved to Anguilla and sang lead vocals for another band, also named the “Silvertones” and gained more experience as they played different types of music for parties, dances and weddings. In 1976, Selwyn returned to St. Kitts to join a band named “Olubayao Brothers”, who played more Reggae Music. They performed in Anguilla, Statia, Saba and were the number one Opening Band for the original “Ellie Matt and the G I’s Brass”. In 1979, Selwyn left the warm comforts of the Caribbean to explore Toronto, Hamilton and London in the Province of Ontario, Canada where he gained inspiration and developed his song writing skills. Between, 1981-1983, Selwyn returned to St. Kitts, joined the “Earthtones Brass” and was now known as “Zemenfes Kidus”. Then, he moved to Jamaica and was introduced to Yvonne Griffith, Bob Marley’s Promotional Manager, by Idren Eliah X, at “Tuff Gong Studio” with members of Bob Marley’s Band; Ashton Barette (Bass Player), Carlton Barette (Drummer) and Earl Wirelindo (Keyboardist). The encounter was very positive. They had a jam session, which led to Zemenfes Kidus recording “The Light” on May 18th 1984, the first song he had written himself. At the time “The Light” was the only song recorded by an Eastern Caribbean Artist that was signed to the “Tuff Gong” Label. He also produced “On Top of What” and “Freedom”. Zemenfes Kidus returned to St. Kitts in 2001 and released “Stand Firm and Strong”. Then, in 2002 went back into the studio to record the album “Judgment”, which was released later that year. His music career has allowed him to open for world renowned Artists Jimmy Cliff, Buju Banton, and Lucky Dube in 2006. He performed at “St. Kitts Music Festival” in 2004 with his band “Highest Joy”. In 2007 Zemenfes Kidus was featured at Saba Carnival and performed along- side Black Stallon and Dub Poet “Mutabaruka” at the “Cry Freedom” Concert 2007. In 2008 he performed at “Culturama” in Nevis. Then, in March 2009 he performed at Bankie Banx “MoonSplash” in Anguilla. Now in 2010 he has released a compilation named “About the Situation”. www.myspace.com/zemenfeskidusmusic
