"Adam's guitar playing..."

Adam's guitar playing reminds me of Prince, southern fried, with a bit of Robbie Robertson added in for good measure - Dr. Andrew Jacob Scott (Guitarist, Educator, Writer)

"The Joyful Sinners are one of the only bands in Toronto still making truly soulful music"

The Joyful Sinners are one of the only bands in Toronto still making truly soulful music. They pay tribute to the past, but with a fresh sound that is all their own. Putting on an engaging, dance-inducing and all around greasy live set, good times are guaranteed when you go out to see the Sinners - Rehan Dalal (2010 Toronto Independent Award Winner for Best Adult Contemporary)

"The Joyful Sinners are shaking up Toronto’s music scene with soul fried rock ‘n’ roll."

Upbeat and hearty, their music demands your attention and you can’t help but shimmy-shake a little while sippin’ on your rye and ginger. They’re smooth, they’re soulful, they’re even as the name suggests: joyful.

- C. Roberts of Mushy Pony

"The Band circa 2010. You heard it here first!"

The Band circa 2010. You heard it here first! - Vanessa Vakharia, Lead Singer for the Big Deal - Vanessa Vakharia - Lead Singer for the Big Deal

Bio

The Joyful Sinners are band of young musicians playing a bag that is well beyond their years; but they don’t let that stop them. One may say their music is a hearty gumbo of Roots, Blues, Soul and Gospel music served hot with a side of good hooks that often garners them comparisons to Canadian music icon The Band. “Our goal is to make music that everyone can enjoy”, states front man, guitar player and songwriter Adam Beer-Colacino. Just last year, the Joyful Sinners played after a hardcore metal band at Toronto’s storied Horseshoe Tavern and not only won over some of their fans, but had them dancing to gospel music! The Joyful Sinners have showcased their talents at many other Toronto establishments including The Silver Dollar Room, Grossman’s Tavern and The Rivoli. Last June, the Joyful Sinners were asked to perform at North by Northeast as part of the Silver Dollar Room’s Blues Showcase on a bill that found them playing right before the Juno nominated Johnny Max Band.

The Joyful Sinners recently released their debut four song EP ‘What You Need’ to a standing room only crowd at the hip Queen Street music venue Mitzi’s Sister. The EP was recorded all in one weekend in a makeshift studio at a good friend’s apartment in the heart of Toronto’s Junction neighborhood. They utilized the environment by layering their tracks with punchy horns and sassy backup vocals, resulting in a full sounding final project that (unlike a lot of music put together in studios these days) can easily be replicated live by the band’s seven piece lineup consisting of Adam Beer-Colacino on Guitar and Vocals, Alan Zemaitis on Keyboards, Jesse Boxer Meyrowitz on Bass, Kyle Sullivan on Drums, Leland Whitty on Saxophones, Martin Matuszczak on Trumpet and Joel Tiefenbach on Trombone. The first batch of CD’s printed sold out in less than a week and has seen radio play on various college radio stations.

This is a band that not only plays well written and hook driven original songs, but are also all very capable and seasoned musicians. Despite all members being under the age of 26, they have already shared stages with many well respected Canadian artists including: Matt Dusk, Ron Sexsmith and Luke McMaster. The sky seems to be the limit for the Joyful Sinners (who have only been playing together for less than two years!). The Joyful Sinners are playing regularly around the city and have plans to start writing and recording a full length album in September. But don’t take it from me, get out and see them live to truly experience what its like to be a ‘Joyful Sinner’.
