Bio

Paul James was born and grew up in Leicestershire. His artistic and musical abilities became apparent from a relatively early age and with the support and encouragement of his parents, he is essentially self-taught. He did go to Art College at the insistence of his teachers to study graphic design, but being something of a rebel he did not wish to conform to the course requirements and preferred to spend time painting classic cars at the local garage, and neighbours pet cats and dogs, so his studies were not concluded.

Paul went on to develop a career in music, playing both organ and piano in a range of pubs, clubs and cocktail bars. However, it was not quite the rock star lifestyle that he had envisaged and he returned to his first love of art and began painting professionally in 1986. The haunting beauty of the nearby Charnwood Forest greatly influenced the atmospheric landscape and animal paintings for which Paul is renowned today.

More recently Paul has spent more time composing and playing piano with the intention of bringing his creative skills together. To this end he has become involved with Scottish based music management and production company, Divamusic.biz, who produced an extremely successful event "An Audience with Paul James" at The Harbour Arts Centre in Irvine, Scotland at the back end of 2006. The event involved an exhibition of Paul's paintings together with a solo piano recital and talk by Paul about his life, music and art. He was also joined by singer Katrina Fitzsimmons and musicians including Scotland's leading trumpet player Ryan Quigley and jazz tenor sax legend Bobbie Wellins for part of the show. Divamusic.biz recently produced Paul's debut CD album - "From Palette To Piano" - featuring Paul's original compositions and have also produced a promo DVD of the "An Audience with Paul James" event.

Paul now spends around half of the year abroad (mainly USA) and is currently developing the show for an international audience.

Paul is currently writing material for his second album.
