John Powers, the young standout guitarst, vocalist and drummer was amazing and, I'm happy to say he will be my American Roots guest host partner again next week. John Powers is someone you need to make an effort to come out and see folks so you can at least say, "you knew him when" because I'm telling you, JP is going somewhere. Many thanks to him and his band the Arturos for their huge efforts in helping keep the roots alive.

At the age of 27, John Powers is already a veteran of the New Jersey music scene. Having spent one-third of his life in recording studios and clubs across the state, he has built up a loyal base of fellow musicians and fans.
Born and raised in Fanwood, NJ in 1979, John comes from a musical family. The son of a vintage guitar restorer and collector, John taught himself guitar by the age of seven. At the age of fifteen he recorded his first self-released EP at Pilot Studios in New York. Although his formative influences were the blues and classic rock, as he matured his tastes broadened to include country, pop and alternative rock.
The era of the internet brought the opportunity to expose his music to a much bigger audience. Spreading word of his shows and releases through sites such as mp3.com and starpolish.com and becoming a featured artist on WSIA allowed him to build a fan base wide enough to allow for a major East Coast tour that extended from Boston to Maryland throughout 2002 and 2003.
In 2004 John decided to break with his band and continue recording and playing as a solo artist. Working with various engineers from around the state, in winter of 2005 he recorded new songs, including "When I Leave, Im Over and Goin South." All three reflect the type of music he's now interested in pursuing. "People don't stop listening to rock and roll when they turn twenty-one," he says. "And yet the industry often acts as if they do. There's a market out there for rock music that people in their twenties can relate to, stuff a little more thoughtful and mature than you normally hear on the radio, but is still the type of music you like to drive around to with your windows down. There are a lot of people out there waiting for that kind of music.
John has recently finished his first full length cd . Appearing on it, a variety of great musicians including Jon Graboff, (Ryan Adams and the Caridinals), Jeff Page & Luke Kessel, (Ten Foot Tall Band ), and co-produce by Nick ,Nasty NedPetti, and engineered by Joe Demaio, at Shorefie Studios.
