Bio
Karl is a talented and versatile multi-instrumentalist and vocalist. Karl has been playing and writing music since he got his first guitar at the age of 4.
He completed classical and jazz music studies at Malaspina College, survived the 70's, and then taught music and played in Easy Money, a well-known Victoria band. After moving to Vancouver, he began writing and playing with Helen Gone, releasing two independent CD's, Real Real Gone and Happy Enough.
Gail began to experiment with music, particularly on her new synthesizer in the '80's . She played synth, sang and wrote songs for Victoria B.C. bands "The Slip" and "Hoi Polloi". Eventually she moved to Vancouver where she and Karl formed "Helen Gone", a band that morphed over time from rock to what they liked to call "acoustronica". They released two independent CD's, Real Real Gone, and Happy Enough, and received regular airplay on the CBC.
Highlights have been winning Vancouver's WRITE ON SONG CONTEST 1996 First Place "Roots/Folk/Worldbeat Category" with "To the Moon" from Real, Real Gone CD; and performing at BLUE BIRD NORTH with Randy Bachman, Amy Sky, Ralph Murphy, Johnny Douglas, Jeff Smallwood, Ron Irving, Ron Hynes, and Shari Ulrich.
Songs from Real Real Gone received regular airplay on CBC and on college radio around the country.
Their latest venture is a contemporary Canadian Celtic rock outfit called The Malarkeys.
