Bio

Dina Smith started writing Christian lyrics in 2007 when she moved from Houston, Texas back to Bayou La Batre, Alabama where she was born. She left behind many loved ones in Texas including her daughter, two granddaughters, a sister and her family and close friends.

When Hurricane "IKE" was headed for the Texas coast, she prayed to God to keep her loved ones safe from harms way. Mark, her son who serves in the United States Army and stationed at Fort Sill, Oklahoma was Dinas inspiration for "MARK'S SONG: Off To War. She started writing this piece when he was deployed to Iraq and finished it during his deployment to Afghanistan. Mailing a copy of the song to him in a Christmas package, he told her that he would put it by his bed and that reading it every morning made him feel safer. "MY FRIEND" was written after the sad passing of a close friend.

Having the copyright on 28 pieces, these are the first three, of many to come, which have been put to music.

The music for "IKE" and "MARK'S SONG: Off To War was created with splicing. "MY FRIEND" was created with "BAND-IN-A-BOX" software. The recordings were done in Houston, TX at Heavy Brass Studio owned by Pastor Ben Richardson II.

Dina's love for music started at a young age when she learned to play a Player Piano. She joined the Clear Creek District School Choir in the 2nd grade and was a member until the 10th grade when she dropped out to become a mother. During this time Dina had the opportunity to participate in the recording of five albums.

Starting in her pre-teen years and still continuing the discipline today, Dina keeps a daily journal of her activities, thoughts and prayers that have made it easy for her to create beautiful lyrics.

Though Dina is not an instrumentalist and vocals have been challenging, she has a firm understanding of how melody, lyrics and harmony work together.
