CD Review: When I saw the red cobra on the front of the brand new Danny Fast Fingers CD that arrived today, I couldn't wait to pop it into my player. What greeted my ears was a very unique blend of quirky tunes, humorous lyrics, simple melodies, and funny funk that worked.
There was a groove in such tunes as "Love Me Strange" and "Code Redd". A nod to Terrapin Station era Grateful Dead in "Snake Head". And a Minutemen vocal approach that was untrained and shakey, but worked for the garage rock arrangements.
Danny Fast Fingers plays a wide variety of instruments including synthesizers, pedal steel guitar, and harmonica. I would assume that this is where his name came from because I didn't hear any lightning-fast riffs coming from my speakers. He definitely treats the listener to an instrumental buffet though.
Rounding out the band is Debra Parr on bass and Spyder The Drummer on, you guessed it, drums!

Mike Pinder's SONGWARS Song Critique for PRAY FOR RAIN:
Reviewer: Mike Pinder (Moody Blues)
"Hi Danny - Your song is well crafted with a strong hook in the chorus. It would be nice to hear some harmonies and answering harmonies in the chorus. Maybe some gospel style answering harmonies (fitting for the line pray for rain). Solid creative and artistic approach. I enjoyed hearing the song! 'Thinking is still the best way to travel.' Cheers, Mike"

BLESSED AND CURSED
This is hard to classify, but with its innocent jabs of organ cutting clean through, this '60s-style unadorned pop rock - somewhat reminiscent of '60s garage music - is a contemporary reflection of those brief, shining moments in the sun for bands like ? & the Mysterians ("96 Tears") and John Fred & His Playboy Band ("Judy in Disguise"). - KOOP 91.7 FM, CHARLIE MARTIN

Raised on Long Island, Danny is a 2006 transplant to Austin. Shortly before moving here he recorded this project in Austin (completed in August). It features his one-man-bandmanship (vocals, harmonica, guitar, Hammond organ) backed by a rhythm section borrowed from Dale Watson's band on most cuts. The simple, rhythmic organ riffs cut right through with an innocence and sound reminiscent of the mid-60s. - KOOP 91.7 FM, CHARLIE MARTIN
"Snake Head Red" has country music's sense of storytelling, a 60's pop rock sound injected with a bit of folk element and drizzling of world music. This recipe makes Danny's new release quite interesting to listen to. I really enjoyed Danny's stories - every song has something to tell, not unlike country music. There were really no virtuoso performances here, although musically Danny is no slouch. He plays well, but he plays relaxed and groovy which serves the song. He uses more of a Bob Dylan storytelling approach, putting you in a story and keeping you interested so you want to stay there. I found the album refreshing and different to the regular fare I review. Outside of country music and folk it is really hard to find these qualities in a song. "Snake Head Red" has a mesmerizing feel and you can't put it down - there is something captivating, either in the storytelling or the jam aspects of the songs that just keep you reaching back for this CD. I call this good songwriting! Danny's got "100% Mojo", as his band's stickers say. I have to agree to that description, this CD embodies it perfectly! - HoustonMusicReviews.com! by A. Dorian
