Great singer/songwriter from Florida / New York
by M. Runion

A fine album of heartfelt folk tunes from the eastern wilds of Florida, with a healthy dose of streetwise New York. "When I Was A Dog" is a howl (no pun intended), and "Lay You Down" is a sublime dream-song that you can float to. "Webster St." evokes a younger Bruce Springsteen. The songs bounce between outright humor and wistful nostalgia for women long gone and eras long forgotten. Pick this up if you like bands such as Iron & Wine, Dan Bern, or Chuck Brodsky. Check out Mr. Kelly's erstwhile duo project, "The Bastard Sons of Bob Dylan", as well.

Bio

A child of the '60s originally from Champaign, Illinois, Terry Kelly is an "old school" folk/rock singer-songwriter now living in East Central Florida. Many songs from his self-released 'Across America' CD (2001), have been featured on folk and acoustic/roots radio programs in America and Europe. His music can often be heard along with artists like Chuck Brodsky, Slaid Cleaves, Ralph McTell, Kate Rusby, Richard Thompson, Billy Bragg, Nanci Griffith, John Prine, Jackson Browne, James Taylor, and Bob Dylan on BBC Radio 2 in the U.K.

Fred Migliore, the host of public radio's nationally syndicated "FM Odyssey" program says, "Terry’s a great songwriter and a great guitarist. He’s performed live on our program several times now and you will be hearing much more of his music on this show in the future! His song, Big City Night (Crazy Johnny and Southside Sally) really takes you back to . . like my own days back home in New York. It's nice to hear a really talented songwriter like Terry perform live in the studio . . very nice."

Fred's "FM Odyssey" show is a great mix of freeform rock and folk music that features many of yesterday's and today's best songwriters. It can be heard in Central Florida on WFIT, 89.5 FM in Melbourne and many stations around the country.

"Terry's one of the best performers and songwriters that we have here on the Space Coast and he's damn funny too. - Java John Goldacker, "An Acoustic Record" radio show on WFIT, 89.5 FM, Melbourne. You can listen monday night from 10 pm to midnight at wfit.org.

"He's a great performer. He’s a real crowd pleaser," according to Melanie Velasik, Florida Today Newspaper in Melbourne. "His song about living a former life as a dog, "When I was a Dog" has the audience barking, laughing, and cheering, all at the same time. Very funny with a real Dylan talking-folk style."

Terry is currently in the studio recording several new songs like his humorous and slightly "Dylan-ish" sounding, very lyrical search for a girl like Meg Ryan. "Life would be a Technicolor movie with monkeys flying . . if I could find a girl . . just like Meg Ryan!"

"Great folk . . my cat even likes it. I'll be playing several cuts from Terry Kellys' album (Across America) on my programme." –Genevieve Tudor, "Sunday Folk," BBC Radio 2, U.K.
