"2011 Cincinnati Blues Challenge"

The Electric Souls make their sound by bringing Muddy Waters and Robert Johnson into the 21st century with an true-to-Blues amplified sound while staying knee-deep in the Mississippi Delta mud. It’s a lowdown sound with a tinge of the psychedelic modern influence and stays living by Louis Armstrong’s motto. The Electric Souls make every show unique by letting the music flow through them and living in the moment. The Electric Souls have been playing since 2005 recording two studio albums as well as a live album capturing their raw energy. Another live album is in the works and you can be part of it by screaming out loud at the next show put on by The Electric Souls! - Greater Cincinnati Blues Society

"Spill It: "CD Party Madness" July 12, 2006"

At 7 pm. Saturday, Rock trio The Electric Souls are having a party (with free beer, food and wine!) in honor of their new CD, House on Fire, at 7th Street Gifts in Newport. The band shows a peculiar yet enjoyable versatility on the album, with practically every track sounding different from the last. Opening cut "The Light" feels like Echo and The Bunnymen, "General Lee" has the lo-fi Pop effusiveness of Robert Pollard, "Conjure You Up" grinds heavily like an old Mountain outtake and "Hear My Baby Calling" and Roll & Tumble" are minimalistic, haunting Blues numbers.

"The Electric Souls (Cincinnati)"

The influences that the Electric Souls claim read like the vinyl collection of a brilliant stoner with impeccable taste in the acid-etched Classic Rock of the '70s and the subsequently influenced next-generation purveyors of the '90s and '00s. (Why, yes, that is my collection ... thank you for noticing.) The Electric Souls channel the purest intentions from their earliest influences and infuse them with the Garage-fueled power of now.

"Scott Crisler Vocation, Avocation, Southern Charm by Nancy Stephens"

With traces of his South Carolina, Georgia and Texas origins muting the flat midwestern accents that surround him, Scott Crisler's words are infused with passion when he speaks of his music. Inspired by his mother who played piano and organ in church and a grandfather who played the harmonica, Scott's musical talents emerged amongst the ghost stories and folklore that abound in Murrell's Inlet, South Carolina, a place Scott describes as being "in my soul." Nostalgia for the romance of the South is evident in his CD, House on Fire. Recently it was reviewed in City Beat as having an "... enjoyable versatility ... with practically every track sounding different from the last." Scott has written all the songs on this CD.
"My brother," explains Scott, "is a luthier. He builds and repairs stringed instruments. Five years older than I, he played in a band and I listened faithfully. He taught me to play the guitar; then I had formal lessons. I really picked up the guitar so I could write my own songs. Improvising and creating is what compels me to play. Many musicians have influenced me, but the first time I heard Jimi Hendrix's music, I was just blown away."
...Scott continues to compose and play. Recently the band he plays in, The Electric Souls, played at the Seventh Street Gift Shop and at Together. Paul Riopel plays bass, Dan Stefano plays drums...
Always a favorite at the Monroe Street Block Party, the band performed recently at Newport on the Levee and at the Mid Point Music Festival on Main Street in Cincinnati. The lyrics to "The Ghost of Mansion Hill" reveal his affinity for the historic East Row which he describes as a wonderful place full of convivial neighbors and friends..."looks like the gardens are full tonight, starry eyes are feeling right...."
Married to local attorney Brenda Bonecutter, Scott and Brenda are expecting their first child in February. - THE VOICE - Volume 7, Issue 11: November 2006

Bio

The Electric Souls are a neo-retro-type band cut in the mold of classic three piece bands. We want a return to a more real rock and meaningful music that takes chances and explores tunes and is not just contrived in this time of idol making and corporate rock creations. If we had to characterize ourselves, it would be modern psychedelic blues-classic rock with more atmospheric and celestial sounding twists than a hippi's hair. The group believes good music takes you away from the daily static and unwinds your mind. We put our all into our show to do that. We like to improvise and play in the moment, take some chances like the great groups, especially of the late 60s and early 70s.

Our main group formed in 2004 and has had several changes in drummers as we made our way. We are all out of many other bands and have lived in different states but have a common appreciation. All members have done the bar tours in cover bands and like a familiar bag of chips we delve into those tunes when it feels right.

Our influences are as wide and deep as the Ohio River and as long as the years of electric guitars. Some main ones are British Rock and Blues, Delta Blues, Cream, Dead Meadow, Zappa, Hendrix, Byrds, Stones, Mountain, Spirit, The Who, Neil Young, but basically it's Dylan to Devo. We're taking rock's blues roots and pushing it further out of bounds like Brit rock and pop did in the 60s - its bluesy sometimes but its heavy rock at others with some Seattle elements and other tinges tossed into the journey.

We set a groove going and it is all based on the vibe and interaction with each other and the audience. We are known to play songs differently based upon the mood and like the freedom of experimenting and taking chances. It's about expression for us and the audience and everybody in the band gets to shine, solo and take things higher. Audiences seem to feel the excitement too and cut loose with us looking for the same magic sparks that cause the fur on your neck to rise.
