Violins, horns, handclaps, and acoustic guitar all blend perfectly in Rosu Lup’s new tune “Shorelines”. The minute-and-a-half intro sounds like something from an old TV show before progressing into what you could call a power folk ballad.

The new release builds more buzz around their upcoming performance at the Northern Liberties Winter Music Festival on February 12th at The Fire where they will be joined by other local acts such as Pine Barons, Family Vacation, and Chelsea Mitchell (of Dirty Dollhouse). Last month, Philadelphia band Rosu Lup stopped by WXPN’s Folkadelphia show to perform a few songs for the radio station. The band, which consists of guitarist Josh Marsh,
drummer Jonny Miller, Colin Lynch on guitar and banjo and Jonathan Stewart on bass was also joined by a five-piece orchestra for the recording.
Photographer Doug Seymour joined the band for a few practices and the final performance. Check out his images in the gallery below, and listen to the performance in the player below. If you like what you hear, you can download the whole session for free. - Paste Magazine
The sound of birds, the wind blowing through the trees, the sound of waves crashing against the beach: these are classic examples of what many would call the music of nature. With many of us now living inside the confines of concrete jungles across the globe, the sounds of nature become very out of reach. This is where real music comes into play. Philadelphia’s own Rosu Lup has taken that sound and immersed the listener into what it feels like to walk through the woods, to hear that stream, and to become one with the world around them. - fourculture
The stars aligned for us for this week’s Folkadelphia Session featuring Philadelphia’s Rosu Lup, a fairly new act that has started to figure out their own voice. On their EP Currents, released this past Spring, the band blends a variety of ideas and sounds; inside, I hear the epic qualities of Sigur Ros, the pop sensibilities of Great Lake Swimmers, and the intimate orchestration (genre alert: chamber folk) of Horse Feathers or Lost In The Trees. I also hear something wholly “Rosu Lupine” on the EP – a certain je ne sais quoi that bines the thoughts, ideas, orchestration together for major musical synergy, but perhaps that is why these guys are a band. It’s not about putting instruments in competent players’ hands, it’s about their chemistry and imagination. - Fred Knittel- WXPN

Bio
Rosu Lup was formed in late 2012. The band mixed their first EP with Miner Street Studio in Fishtown, Philadelphia with the help of engineer Joe Bisirri. After a strand of shows which included opening for Spirit Family Reunion, the band returned to the studio to record their latest EP Currents.
Blending the tones of folk guitars and banjo with ethereal harmonies and soundscapes, Rosu Lup has created a sound that is all their own.Often accompanied by a mini-orchestra, their live shows are engaging and imaginative. The imagery and depth found in the band's lyrics are honest and inspiriting.
With plans for their first LP to be released sometime in early 2014, Rosu Lup has created an impressive amount of forward momentum over a short amount of time.
