"On The Rise (Album Review)"

Mark Brathwaite is one of the few emcees in the underground hip-hop scene that I would
actually say is truly sick-wit-it. On his new two-track singles bundle titled, On The Rise,
Mark goes hard in the paint like Lebron James; showing the world that his city can't help
but breed great MC's. Hip-hop is all about lyrics and delivery, and no emcee should ever
rely on their beats to carry a song; but on this release the beats are relying on Mark,
which is the way it should be. Just like Drake, Kardinal Offishall, K-Os, K'naan, and Rich
Kidd (among others), Mark Brathwaite is clearing out space for himself on the list of
Toronto's hip-hop greats.

On both tracks, Mark's delivery - from the melodies to the cadences and timing - is
impeccable. Of the two tracks, Rain, stands out the most because he carries the joint
without any assistance from a guest feature. The track is decent, but it's Mark's energetic
flow on the song that makes it such a beastly joint. Lyrically, Brathwaite stacks up well
amongst the previously mentioned Toronto greats, now all he needs is the stage to
showcase his greatness. The other song, On The Rise, is an equally great track that
features a guest appearance from Coleman Hell. These two guys shine on this song like
a chrome Ferrari on a sunny July day in Miami Beach. On The Rise has a soulful vibe
that begs to be heard by everybody who loves hip-hop music.

To me, hip-hop has gotten seriously watered down because, too many rappers are trying
too hard to fit in with what they hear from those in the limelight. What makes it worse is
when dudes don't even do a good job of copying those popular MC's. Gladly, I didn't feel
like I was listening to anybody else when I listened to Mark Brathwaite's music, and I didn't
feel like he was just doing this to be famous. For that reason, and everything else I listed
earlier, I would recommend Mark Brathwaite's singles bundle to any real hip-hop fan. - I Am Entertainment Magazine

"Sunrise Remix Blog Review"

Following the release of his latest single, Sunrise, Toronto hip-hop artist Mark Brathwaite is back again but this time with a remix for the same song.

This remix was done by Jessica Cho and it definitely transcends what you would typically expect from most remixed hip-hop tracks. In fact you could argue that if it wasn't for Mark rapping on the record this song would be labelled as the furthest thing from hip-hop. However, you gotta admit that it's still a cool ass song.

The beat sounds like a throwback 90's electro-dance song and Mark absolutely beasts the beat with a super confident flow that fits perfectly. It's very easy to picture Euro-dance music fans connecting with this tune. Also, it's good to see Mark try something creatively different from what he normally releases because it shows that he's not afraid to take any risks.

The only knock on this song is that he could have rapped a little bit longer on the track, but hey sometimes less is more. - Zambah Music

"Sonicbids Hip-Hop Playlist, Curated by Toronto Influencer Erin Lowers"

About the artist: A hip-hop artist, actor, and multi-instrumentalist from Toronto, Canada, Mark Brathwaite is currently gearing up for the release of his full-length album Phoenix. Recently, Mark began working with Impact Live Events and Drop Entertainment, through which he opened for Bad Boy Records artist Machine Gun Kelly on his Canadian tour.

Fun fact: In 2012, he did commercial work for Honey Bunches of Oats and McDonald's. He's also a big fan of Vietnamese pho and iced coffee.

What's next? Look out for the music video for his third single, "Sunrise," which debuted September 1. - Sonicbids
