"Capable of both delicate whisper-sings and full-bore belting, this is a singer/songwriter who takes pieces that are already strong, builds them up, and knows just how to cool them off without extinguishing the spark. You could call this modern rock, but there's pop in there too, as well as bits of jazz and tinges of the most tasteful lounge. The tracks are powered by piano and other keys, and Child's ability as a vocalist to both go toe-to-toe with the larger layers of sound (the wonderfully rumbling opener "Naked Eye") and dance seductively with the sparser arrangements ("Whispering", "Dusk") is a testament to both her abilities as a singer and her expertise in the area of crafting an effective song. The spot-on production presents itself as another key element, making room for strings, mellotron, and subtle but solid percussion. It may be hard to definitively classify the music she's making, but in the end, that also ends up being one of the best things about this album" - CDBaby

Bio
Born in upstate New York, Lucy Child grew up with a plethora of musical influences stemming from classical piano lessons and church choir to top 40 radio and her father’s favorite Puccini and Verdi operas. An avid fan of almost all genres, Child admits to the distinguished sonic impressions of masters such as Joni Mitchell, Laura Nyro, Nina Simone, Kate Bush, and Bob Dylan to name a few. The powerful influence of these and other legendary artists inevitably inspired Child to create her own musical sounds.
Following a move to New York city after a brief acting career out west, Child began to pursue singing and songwriting, recording a series of demos and performing live. With progressive, and sometimes delicate and sparse piano arrangements, accompanied by distinctive and emotionally charged vocals, Child began to create her own musical niche playing in the downtown bars and open mikes of Manhattan. It was not long before the city’s lower east side warmed to her grounded and organic piano-driven sound...a provocative and indefinable blend of alternative rock, pop, and jazz.
A chance meeting with indie music maven and producer Jimi Zhivago eventually fueled talk of creating a future full-length album, after Child gave him a home recorded ep to listen to. The desire was to create an analog recording with a live yet intimate feel. Multi-instrumentalist Zhivago then gathered engineer Pete DeBoer (Glen Hansard, Scott Stapp), session drummer Brian Wolfe (Leah Siegl, My Brightest Diamond), and cellist Julia Kent (Antony and the Johnsons) to add their talents to the project, along with Greg Calbi from Sterling Sound to master the final mixes. Since its December ‘08 release, the album Mirrors and Folly debuted as CD Baby’s Editor’s Pick, with an enthusiastic front page feature on its popular website.
