KYDD (Randall Jones) is a musician from Texas who works in a hip, Kanye-West-influenced vein of rap and hip-hop. KYDD's mixture of genres and styles serve an alternative, modern sensibility, reflected in the fact that his singles, videos and mix-tapes have been met with a groundswell of internet support. He will be bringing his sound to this year's SXSW festival in Austin.
Describe your sound in your own words.
My sound is me; from every beat to every vocal, you're getting me. I'm my sound.
How did you first get into music?
I'm a MC/producer/singer songwriter-- it all that stems from my older brother and my mother. Growing up, my mother was really into music and just urban life in general-and because of that my brother and I started our first hip-hop group together at age nine.
What are your musical influences?
I'm influenced by artists like MGMT, Kanye West and Collin Monroe, just to name a few. They really stand out to me and make me push my music to the next level. Also, music from the 90's like Lauryn Hill and Souls of Mischief. Now that I think about it I'm influenced by a lot of music. I just love music.
What's in your festival survival kit?
Red Bull and Swishers.
What's the last song or album you listened to?
'Don't Stop' by Brazilian Girls. It's really a great song.

Bio
Born and raised in Austin, TX, newcomer Randell Jones, Kydd, is no stranger to music and is hailed for his lyrical ingenuity. As a child, music took center stage in Kydds life and was his first love; his unique style and astute unparalleled sound was greatly influenced by renowned artist such as Jay-Z, Lauren Hill, J Dilla, Mary J Blige, Kanye West, Slum Village, and Tribe Called Quest. Kydd may be from the South but his style is unlike that of any other southern artist and he doesnt kid around when music is involved. When most people think of Texas music, they typically assume that its sound will be similar to that of the slowed down, deep base infused Screw of Houston or the upbeat dance music of Dallas. While both styles are well-known and respected in the South, they are in starch contrast to Kydds sound, which observers note as uniquely-Kydds.
Being a talented rapper and outstanding singer-songwriter, Kydds lyrical rhythm and melodic performance is quickly discerned as breaching the borders of Alternative Rock, R&B and Rap genres, purely Experimental Hip-Hop. Kydds stage presence and performance is a far cry from the usual Hip-Hop show and unlike most rappers who have only a DJ and a hype man, Kydds shows involve a more elaborate set up -Kydd encompasses a FULL-LIVE band including a drummer, DJ, hype man, and guitarist. He is consecutively an official SXSW performer for two consecutive years, to being awarded an Austin Hip Hop Awards Best Lyricist Of The Year Award in 2009. Kydd has also done collaborations some of the heavy hitters in the new movement of hip-hop, from Fly Society to Pac Div to The Cool Kids to Yelawolf and even international artist such as Aloe Blacc. Kydd is constantly touring on national and international tours, he was on the LRG 2010 HomeGrown Tour, G.O.O.D. Musics Big Sean What You Doin College Tour, The Smokers Club Tour, 2010 Sneaker Pimps Tour, The Cool Kids Oklahoma and Texas tour, and many more.
Kydds amazing live performances is just what the doctor ordered for todays ailing music industry, and is truly what all Hip-Hop fans have been waiting for. Kydds highly anticipated mixtape, The Sounds in My Head 2 is slated to be released in February of 2012.
