Avory

Avory (formerly FlashPoint) started back in 2005 with a group of youth from Connections Church in Yakima, WA. In the beginning, FlashPoint was a group of energetic, yet inexperienced young musicians who wanted to learn how to play better and lead music for church. Over the next 3 years, FlashPoint gained a few more musicians, greatly improved their skills, started branching out to other venues, and truly started understanding what it meant to play music for God and lead others into worship. They played for youth groups, church services, schools, went on a mission trip with their church to Peru and learned how to lead hundreds of youth in Spanish. August 2008 presented an incredible opportunity for FlashPoint as they lead worship for a week of prayer and daily received training, mentoring, encouragement, and prayer and were able to implement all they had learned each day in the evening worship time.

Over the next few months, FlashPoint went through several changes; the biggest one being the loss of several members. Each member was listening for where God wanted them to be in that season of their life, and soon the eight person band shrank to a three person band. Through this challenging time they learned to rely on God, kept playing music, and eventually more musicians came their way. Following this, FlashPoint went through a similar season where they played for churches, more schools’ weeks of prayer, anyone else who wanted music, and all the while their worshipping hearts were being developed along with their musical talent and love for God.

Back in September 2009, FlashPoint played at the State Fair. While they were playing, Todd Homer and Troy Woody of Adonai Records took interest in the band and contacted them afterward. About a week later, the two men met with FlashPoint to talk about a potential music deal. After a few weeks and more conversations, FlashPoint signed with Adonai records.

Now, a little over a year later, FlashPoint has gone through several more changes and is starting a new season of music and ministry. The band is now independent and has changed their name to Avory. (read less)
