They say the cream always rises to the top. Total Kaos has emerged with a solidified and established sense of maturity, experience, style and business savvy. This artist/producer has been characterized as a “Poet” and “Musical Genius” by some. He gives you jaw dropping, in your face lyrics, while the music production makes you either dance, bob your head or kick back and relax.
Total Kaos has a history of turning anti hip hop audiences into fans of his artistry. Although there are times when the stress from still being unsigned bears down on him, Kaos continues to stay focused and loyal to his audiences by giving them what they want with Da Truth Hurts.
The album opens up with a Jamaican inspired “Rude Boy” where Total Kaos shows us his lyrical ability, while talking about real life events. The beat is reminiscent of a Mr. Porter Beat, who produced 50 Cent’s “P.I.M.P.” on Get Rich Or Die Tryin’.
“2 Dollas” represents the typical struggles of the paper chase, which we have all been accustomed to hearing in the rap industry. While the production of the track seems to be a mixture of hip-hop and a rock ballad, the beat comes out nicely as Kaos delivers a smooth flow across the track.
The next track, “What About You,” is a little more up-beat and has the feel of a Florida street anthem. “I get money, I f*ck hoes, I ride chevy’s, nigga my wrist glow” is repeated in the chorus as Kaos flaunts his success in the game.
“Bust You Down” shows that Kaos is not the type of person to be messed with, while “All Day Trappin” and “M.O.E.” (Money Over Everything) serve as street anthems that anyone who has lived in the south can relate to.
“He Ain’t Real” sends a bold statement to the residents of Florida, along with many of its elite rappers. Kaos calls out everybody from Plies, to Ace Hood and Rick Ross, while giving a shout out to Trick Daddy and Bloodraw, among others.
While Kaos may not be too fond of Plies, he made sure to take a page from his book when writing five songs that cater to the ladies. “Vibing”, “4 Play”, “I Love The Way”, and “Your Body” serve as very sensual and erotic tracks, showing the rappers appreciation for the female anatomy. While it may not be a traditional love song, they all serve as a nice track for when you are getting ready to head to the bedroom. For those women who aren’t into the raunchiness of these types of songs, “Beautiful” serves as a laid-back, easy to ride to song made for that special someone.
“Mama Look” is a great song for anyone who doubts that hip-hop can have a positive message. This song gives us an inside look on how Kaos has matured as a man after coming up in the streets.
Our Texas fan base would appreciate “Imma Be Alright”, as the track provides a “Z-Ro” type of feel.
Kaos takes it back to his hometown with “Ross’s Pain.” This track shows his frustration with local R&B singer turned superstar T-Pain, who doesn’t reach back to the artists in his community. The following track “10 Till 9” serves as his official anthem for his hometown of Tallahassee.
The entire album rides throughout all twenty-two tracks and does not disappoint. The album ends with a hot freestyle, which leaves us wanting to hear more from the future Tallahassee star. This album is a must have for those who support real underground hip-hop.
