"THE OM SOUND"

THE OM SOUND – QUOTES – Reviews

The Om Sound by Suzanne Doucet is ambient music taken to such an extreme that it's almost mind blowing.
David Delay, New Age Music Index, USA

The all encompassing primordial sound. Suzanne captured the receptivity of the interactive energy of the creation and the creative force.
Martin Weber-Caspers, Radio Lelystad, Netherlands

The ultimate CD to travel the cosmos while sitting still. Suzanne has created masterwork of ambience.” Scott Hartley – First Light Music

The OM Sound will literally launch you into other states and realms. Absolute best of the best in this genre. Scott Hartley – First Light Music

Description:

Harmonic Healing Music for Reiki and Yoga and deep meditation and relaxation. The OM represents the center sound of the Universe. This ultra sublime version was composed and channeled originally for a TANTRA VIDEO – “Jewel in the Lotus”. Over the years those who had heard Suzanne’s “soundtrack” asked her for an audio copy. And after receiving reviews like David Delay’s below, Suzanne decided to put this recording out on CD.

"The Om Sound by Suzanne Doucet is ambient music taken to such an extreme that it's almost mind blowing. I think it's a superb classic. Music that is constant, always the same, yet always changing. It may be too constant to call this "wallpaper music", but it is extremely holographic, in that you can start the CD at any point and it's all the same, yet always changing. One low base synth organ like chord held constant throughout the piece, with small variations in the background barely perceptible, almost subconscious. My non 'New Age Music' friends just stare at me blank and say "I could have done that with one finger!". It's the small variations in the background that hold it together. This is music that's always changing yet always the same. An interesting paradox that Suzanne Doucet has superbly mastered. If you just glance at it it's just a base chord, but if you listen closely, there's always things happening, so it never gets stale. Hypnotic music to meditate by. (Very hypnotic)"

"TRANQUILITY SERIES"

5.0 out of 5 stars A Review by Jim Brenholts, December 12, 2006
By Tajalli "Tajalli Moonstar" (USA) - See all my reviews
"Sacred Forest" is a strong combination of nature sounds, chants, drones
and ethnic acoustic instruments-- all with overtone qualities and effects.
Suzanne Doucet and Chuck Plaisance are masters of this art form and
this installation of their Tranquility Series is -- like the entire series --
an awesome meditation and relaxation tool! It might be trite and cliche
but it is difficult to translate this disc's impact into mere words.
The gentle atmospheres caress deep listeners warmly and lovingly.
The atmospheres are looped, layered and sequenced to form one smooth
soundscape. Again, this is an essential among essentials. ~

"David Delay"

SUZANNE DOUCET A good friend of Constance Demby, Suzanne Doucet is a superb musician from Germany where quite a few superb newage artists come from. Her music should be widely available but it often isn't. The music is available from the web site. Contact: www.newagemusic.com (Only New Age Music) [group 1] Om and Hum (1989)[****] A superb classic that still hasn't been released, but if you ask her as I did she might sell you a copy. An interesting paradox that she has superbly mastered. If you just glance at it it's just a base chord, but if you listen closely, there's always things happening, so it never gets stale. Hypnotic music to meditate by. (Very hypnotic) Try: RICK MILLER Starsong GILES REAVES Sea of Glass [group 2] Reflecting Light (1987)[****] Two 26-minute tracks. Track 1 is a masterpiece in my opinion. Beautiful slow quiet music. The piano takes the lead with some synth sounds holding together in the background. Five carefully chosen piano keys are played one at a time in sequence, followed by a brief pause. The sequence then repeats itself, but each time it repeats it's different, there's a change somewhere, it's never exactly the same sequence. The sound is nice. Good music to unwind with. In a different version she is toying with combining Reflecting Light with some environmental sounds. I prefer the original without the wind sound added. Track 2 is a bit faster with keyboards and some flowing sounds. Try: [group 4 below] [group 3] Resonance (2000)[****] Another masterpice of ambient music. Try: ... [group 3.5] Shasta (2001)[***] Another excellent one with that special Suzanne Doucet touch.

ONLY NEW AGE MUSIC (I combine these albums here under SUZANNE DOUCET since these albums all sound similar, the musicians all seem to know one another, and they're all on the same label: "Only New Age Music". The musician's names on each album follow the date.) [group 4: These all sound quite similar even though the artists names are all different.] Nightflight (1987,Christian Buehner & Helge Schroeder)[***] Transmission (1987,Suzanne Doucet & Christian Buehner)[***] Mystic Traveler (1987,Christaal)[**] Good stuff but short pieces. Visions from Atlantis (1987,Christian Buehner & Helge Schroeder)[***] The Voyage Beyond... (1987,Selected pieces from the above CDs)[***] [group 5: More "World Music" like. An East-West blend.] Divan I Khas (1990,Al Gromer Khan)[*] Birds of Passage (1990,Karl Schaffner & Lothar Grimm)[*] [group 6] Heart Life (1990,Only New Age Music)

This disc is a classic. It has been a really long time since I have heard New Age Synth Music that is as good as Resonance. When I played this CD for the first time I was instantly carried away into another realm. I particularly love the first track on this CD. Suzanne Doucet and Gary Miraz have a great musical synergy that is evident throughout this entire disc. This disc is a must have for any New Age music collection

Reviewer: Beth Lerch, communications manager Resonance is clearly a heartfelt project. Positive sounds, unique rhythms flow from this magical pairing of artists, creating a wonderful heart/mind space that is very conducive to relaxation and entertaining at home.

5 out of 5 stars Maximum Lush!, May 29, 2002
Reviewer: John Balint (Santa Barbara, CA USA) - See all my reviews
Resonance now takes the place of Brian Eno and Harold Budd's "The Pearl" as my favorite ambient/synth album. Doucet and Miraz' playing complement each other beautifully. As anyone who has ever recorded synthesizer knows, the key to success is two-fold: First, the sounds themselves must be top-notch. There are a lot of cheezy synth patches in the world, and happily, none of them find their way onto this album. Secondly, since synthesizers are potentially cold and mechanical sounding, the PLAYING has to be expressive and sensitive. Again, Doucet and Miraz do not disappoint. My favorite track is the opening "Dancing Shadows" which features a haunting melody played on what I believe is a vintage Moog synthesizer, or a darn-good imitation thereof.

As for the mood, I would say that in a word, Resonance is REASSURING. Although it definitely has all the best features of space music, for me, there is just enough melodic/harmonic content to keep me in my body, and ultimately, after a few tracks, I end up feeling like all is well after all. This one is staying in my rotation for a long time to come.

I suggest you buy it. Listen to Resonance in the morning, and add a little bliss to your whole day.

EDITORIAL:

This is a deep listening CD of collaborative musical meanderings by Suzanne Doucet and Gary Miraz. Their CD is built on impressionistic, surrealistic improvisations. Light pulse rhythms, unusual sounds and effects, often from a distance, and space music built on melody and shifting drone layers is what develops over the course of six rather lengthy tracks. Like liquid portraits, the music of "Resonance" takes on visual qualities and otherworldly realms with a grace and ease that is easy to be with, and can be revisited often.
Lloyd Barde – Backroads Music

Suzanne Doucet is a true new age practitioner, mogul, and performer. She has used her musical integrity and business savvy to create her own mini-empire. Gary Miraz is a visual artist of wide repute. He combines spirituality with creative energy to create meaningful and expressive works. His musical virtuosity stems from and adds to the depth of meaning. Resonance is a nearly perfect blend of acoustic and electronic keyboards. Miraz and Doucet share the boards -- key and sound -- and production on this holistic atmospheric offering. The soundscapes are perfect vehicles for meditation and relaxation. This CD will appeal to fans of Zero Ohms, Liquid Mind, and Brannan Lane.

5 out of 5 stars Meditating in the web of life, November 5, 2000
Reviewer: Ary from Catonsville, MD United States
The unpretentious nature of this recording won my heart the first time I listened to it. The occassional chicken, birds, barking dog and galloping horse add not only ambiance, but are a refreshing reminder that we are all part of a living community. I highly recommend this CD for anyone who likes to meditate - or simply sit and muse - outdoors. The "om"s in the background are just right, and I enjoy the natural sounds of the countryside. I find it especially nice because it doesn't take itself too seriously. Along with the serene melodies, it has a forthright quality of "this is life, with all it's distractions and other living beings, that we are all part of, no more no less". What it may lack in "sophistication", it more than makes up for in soul. Not for those looking for a monastery type atmosphere, however.

Reviewer: John R. Klein Jr. from Marietta, GA USA
This one's a bit different. I wouldn't call it "environmental", and I wouldn't call it "meditative", but I WOULD call it a peaceful combination of both. The "Om" is exactly the right volume, pitch and resonance. Quite relaxing; very enjoyable trip. I do, however, feel the horse gallop sounds were out of place.

5 out of 5 stars not for the hermetically-sealed meditator..., May 7, 2000
Reviewer: A customer from North Texas, USA
If you believe that the only way to meditate is in a closed up room with nothing to distract you from the sound of your own breathing, then of course you will hate this CD. For those who find that nature offers the best meditation, however, you should thoroughly enjoy it. The animal sounds are great...remind me of when I lived in the country, instead of in sterile suburbia, where I now reside. The "om" is just right, the music pleasant without being intrusive. Overall, it reminds me of the "Soft Wave" recordings of a few years back with the dolphin sounds. I must admit I haven't tried this CD outside of my vehicle, since I refuse to take it out of my car CD player for an instant. It has made my tension-filled commute so much more pleasant...keeps me from honking my horn and cursing the other drivers, since I don't want to spoil the peaceful environment the sounds and music create. That alone is worth the price! So don't listen to the "neigh"-sayers...get your own copy and get back to nature! (and the running horse is too kewl!)

I bought this disk because I was fascinated by all of thecontroversy surrounding it. Talk about either loving it or hatingit. There is no middle ground on this disk. It's either a 1 star or a 5 star. I've never seen anything like it on Amazon. I can't say that I am a big fan of these types of recordings not have I ever been to Tibet or anyplace remotely close to it. I've tried to meditate on occassion without much success. The UPS man has an uncanny ability to ring the door bell at just the right moment. I'm not sure this is the sort of disk you can meditate to. Although if you do want to meditate I think this is a great training disk. It really will teach you to avoid and tune out all of those extraneous distractions. Overall, I thought it was a pretty cool disk...its worth buying. Actually, the more I listen to it the more I think that maybe I should go to Tibet.

You will either hate this disk or you will love it. For my part I loved it. I've spent a lot of time trekking in Nepal. This is really what the place sounds like. Listening to the disk brought back memories of my treks. I felt that I was sitting in my hotel room in Katmandu listening to the sounds of the street below only in this case I had soft, meditative, music as an accompaniement. This is the music I wish I had had with me when I was trekking. If you are into "sonic wallpaper",the sort of smaltz that the big new age labels put out, this disk is not for you. It's to real, to gritty. If you want to capture the sounds and feelings of trekking through the Himalyas while soft meditative music plays in the background then this disk is for you. Listen to it, close your eyes and for a monent you can feel the cold wind of the Kumbu glacier swirl around you at Everest base camp.
