The 11th Annual Mountain Stage NewSong Contest is one of North America’s premier showcases of emerging performers and songwriters. The contest spans an array of genres, and is one of the highest rated competitions by Sonicbids artists (see below for reviews and ratings). The Mountain Stage has debuted artists such as The Barenaked Ladies, Ryan Adams, Sheryl Crow, Norah Jones, and Alison Krauss, and now is accepting submissions from Sonicbids artists for the general round and regional rounds of its 2012 contest.

The general round is available for submission through September 15th. Please see the "important dates" schedule below.

PRIZES


  • The 2012 contest winner will get the opportunity to record a fully funded album with producer Iestyn Polson (David Gray, Patty Smith, David Bowie). This album will be released on Brooklyn's NewSong Recordings label.

  • The winner will perform on an internationally broadcasted Mountain Stage (NPR) show, which has showcased over 2000 artists since 1983.

  • The grand prize winner will be invited back to perform his or her own show at Lincoln Center during its 2013 season.

  • The grand prize winner will also receive a performance spot at Sundance's ASCAP Music Café in Park City in February, 2013

  • Finalists and other contest standouts will also be invited to participate in future NewSong Music productions in various locations throughout the country, and will be candidates for film and television placement opportunities, as well as for future releases on the NewSong Recordings label.

  • Finalists will also be considered for future Mountain Stage appearances.

REGIONAL ROUNDS, THE GENERAL ROUND AND PEOPLE'S CHOICE AWARD

How to get to the Award Round:

Twelve (12) finalists will be invited to the live Award Round competition/showcase held in New York City on October 20th at the Lincoln Center as part of CMJ. Here's how they get there...


  • Five (5) from the General round: Open to anyone, anywhere.

  • Six (6) from the Regional rounds. Ten (10) Regional finalists will be selected in each of our six regions (60 total). After being selected, each Regional finalist uploads a performance video of the song they submitted. From these videos, our judges select one winner from each region, who then advance to the Award Round.
  • One (1) as the People's Choice winner: Music fans will have the chance to vote on their favorite song/video from the finalists in each region (60 total). The Regional finalist with the most votes advances to the Award Round.



Artists may submit to both the General round and the Regional rounds.
