Summary
Savannah Stopover 2012 is taking place March 8th to 10th in the historic district of beautiful Savannah, GA. It's the perfect gig for bands from the Northeast on their way down Interstate-95 en route to Austin for SXSW. It's a great opportunity to play a show, earn some gas money, have a nice bed to sleep in, and eat some fantastic southern food- all in a city known for its hospitality and funky and artistic vibe.
Submissions are being accepted from both local Savannah bands and those passing through the area. Local bands are chosen to play Locals Only Day Shows or as an opening act for select touring bands. Strong preference is given to bands on their way to play in Austin. At least 3 Sonicbids will be selected to perform.
The small, vibrant coastal community is rife with a unique brand of low country hospitality and southern Gothic ambiance, music-hungry demographic, and established arts community. The four-day festival merges music, visual arts, technology and film components in an intimate, historical setting and at a price unrivaled by any music festival of like scale and scope.
Touring bands will be compensated based on their draw. All submission fees will go to a local Savannah based charitable organization that supports the music arts. Artists are also able to sell merchandise and keep the proceeds. Over 80 bands will perform on 10-12 different stages at various venues in the historic district including The Jinx, Wormhole, Livewire, and more. There will be at least 60 touring bands and many local Savannah bands performing throughout the festival.
The festival takes place just in time for the end of classes for 6000 Savannah College of Art & Design (SCAD). Bands will have an opportunity to play at numerous venues across the historic district on Thursday night, Friday and Saturday. There will also be a VIP Artist Lounge area for bands, press and select fans to interact. Bands will be able to stay in local homes and be treated to daily specials from across Savannah's restaurant and retail community.
